When just about everything is gone but brown and grey, a bit of weather-worn paint carries off more meaning. I've seen this little shed in the most vibrant weather, surrounded by a sea of lupines and soaked in spring rain. Cold as I am, and stark as the scenery seems, the emotion of it always seems to get at me. It feels right to be chilled out here, knowing there's a long time coming before any real warmth returns. It feels honest to be patient for the storms that slowly come. I can't go through life pretending like it's not in me to love it. My genetic history is tuned to this, my Danish ancestors put up with worse. Sure, I'm tempted toward what's warm and easy – but the beauty of the hardest season keeps calling home to me.

I managed to tempt the stray black kitten indoors two nights ago and he seems perfectly happy to be here. Of course he gets all the food he can eat as well as some cream as a special treat, and most of all he has a very happy playmate in Hugo. The little one still runs away from me, though I have managed to pet him a few times while he's eating. I would like to come up with a good name for him. Once he is a bit tamer I will take him to the vet for a check-up. He is a boy and seems to be roughly the same age and size as Hugo. I have no idea where he came from, he just appeared in our complex about six weeks ago and various people were feeding him. But he does need to be kept safe and have some shots and flea treatment. He's a cute little guy.

I could become a... well, I don't know, but a something.

Went to the coast today.

Wish I could get down there more often, the photo opportunities are endless.

i'm seriously trying to stop buying books and clothes, but these volumes at the annual english-dept fundraiser almost tempted me to break my prohibition.

Festival week also meant contests with bulls. We got a front row seat to what turned out to be the opening act, with testosterone-filled boys and experienced, weary bulls keeping a safe distance. (No bulls or people were injured in the event.)

It is just so tempting to tickle those little pink toes .... watch out for the retractable daggers though :o)

to mess with my acupuncturist's feng shui.

The Musee de l'Oeuvre Notre Dame in Strasbourg houses a remarkable collection of medieval art, at the core of which are many superb sculptures removed from the nearby cathedral (where they have been replaced with near perfect copies) as well as fine examples of stained glass from various Alsatian churches, including the renowned Wissembourg Head, one of the oldest examples of painted stained glass in existence.

The collection is housed in a late medieval & Renaissance mansion opposite the cathedral and was opened in 1931.
