The salt source near Guthrie, Texas, on the South Fork of the Wichita River is pooled up using an inflatable dam at the Bateman Pump Station. From the Bateman Pump Station, the salt water is pumped through a 22-mile pipeline into Truscott Brine Lake. The reservoir is totally contained with no means of discharging water. The surface area is large enough that it evaporates as much water as is being pumped into the lake.

An ARM technician makes adjustments to the Narrow Field of View Zenith Radiometer (NFOV) atop the ARM Mobile Facility during the Marine Stratus Radiation Aerosol and Drizzle (MASRAD) field campaign. MASRAD took place at Point Reyes National Seashore in California to study the microphysical characteristics of marine stratus clouds. The NFOV's narrow view field permits the measurement of down-welling zenith radiance. One use of these measurements is to characterize the internal structure of clouds.
