Technical Discussion on the 2019 Global Report on Food Crises: Working together to prevent food crises

Conflict and extreme climate events are contributing to rising levels of food insecurity and malnutrition. In 2018, some 113 million people in 53 countries experienced acute food insecurity. The Global Report on Food Crises provides the latest estimates of severe hunger and an analysis of countries chronically vulnerable to food crisis.
The report's findings are a powerful call for strengthened cooperation that links prevention, preparedness, and response to address urgent humanitarian needs and for addressing the root causes of the problem, including climate change, economic shocks, conflict, and displacement

At the Elizabeth Board of Education meeting of December 17 at Thomas A. Edison Career and Technical Academy, the Board celebrated and recognized excellent achievements of members of the Elizabeth Public Schools Professional Learning Community.
The Board recognized students of Edison Career and Technical Academy who participate in the Skills USA program, which includes participating in student and community activities that focus on citizenship, leadership, employability, and technical and professional skills training. Additionally, the Board recognized Edison Career and Technical Academy students who have shown excellent citizenship in their school community; students who have excelled in career and technical education programs, including culinary arts, construction technology, barbering, graphic print, and baking; and teachers who have been instrumental to the success of Edison’s career and technical education programs. Finally, Terence C. Reilly School No. 7 third grade teacher Keeko de la Pena was recognized for being selected as the 2017 Teacher of the Year by the New Jersey Agricultural Society for her work to maintain, promote, and teach in the school garden.
Following the President’s Focus, delivered by Board President Charlene Bathelus, Elizabeth Public Schools Superintendent Olga Hugelmeyer spoke to publicly express her gratitude for Bathelus’ service as Board President during 2016 and presented a video highlighting her positive impact on the students and team members of Elizabeth Public Schools.
