Columbia Pacific Dahlia Show 2024

September 13 @ 10:00 am - September 14 @ 4:00 pm PDT

Free

The Columbia Pacific Dahlia Show is hosted by the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in Ilwaco on September 13th and 14th, 2024. After a very successful first year, this part contest-part show highlighting locally grown dahlias is back!

Participants can enter bouquets, arrangements, and single stems. If you grow many dahlias, participants can pre-register for a 6-foot table to create their own display. Pre-registration for tables is encouraged as amounts are limited. There will be ribbons awarded for People’s Choice, Best Bouquet, Biggest Bloom and Smallest Bloom.

The museum is open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm. Admission to this event and the museum is free to all thanks to the Port of Ilwaco and our members.

This is a cup from a china set that belonged to my Godmother. It is handpainted with a dandelion pattern. At the time, one could go to a store and choose the blank pieces in the shapes desired and they might be made by a variety of makers and from different countries even. Then you chose how you would like it to be decorated and they painted each piece with your desired design. Ladies of a certain class might even paint their own, getting together to do china painting as a social activity.

Our fresh outside Christmas door wreath...

Is this a small dog or a big teacup?

my favorite vintage teacup from my Great Aunt

On Saturday I went to an estate sale...it was more of a yard sale. You couldn't go inside the house and there were lots of clothing.

There were some vintage china pieces, for around $2 a cup. I bought these cups instead for 10¢ a piece. One of them has "California Living" stamped on the bottom. The font style of "Living" made me think they were Martha Stewart brand. Turns out that they are instead vintage: Laurel Potteries of California. Thanks to ctb59 for finding that out for me.

I don't drink tea - shame on me - so I bought them for Rose when she's old enough to play tea parties. Might have to wait an extra year or two, now that I know they're vintage. :P

After I finished my pot of tea made with this blooming pod, I felt the need to put it in the teacup and take a few more photos. They're so pretty ... shame they don't last. :(

I used one of my clown buttons as an accent

I guess Daffyd thinks he's a teacup chihuahua. LOL!

Because I discovered my new F100's pentaprism was loose, I decided to load some Kodak slide film that was expired which I had planned on cross processing. I'm not sure how I liked this roll, I got a few good shots, but some of them just came out crappy because we lost the light midway through it.

Decaf Earl grey, I'd already had my coffee and I didn't want to go through the roof.

I am VERY happy to announce that registration is finally open for my new, McGreevy Cakes live, online classes!!

I'm really excited about these classes, as I think they are going to be so much fun! One of the classes will be creating a hand-painted sugar teacup like in this picture. Here's a link for more details www.mcgreevycakes.com/workshopsclasses/

So I decided which edit of this shot I liked. Well, at least I think I've decided.... I may change my mind later.

I didn't want to over-edit this one, and I was aiming for a quiet, vintage feel.

Any thoughts?

These two mice are part of a special commission for a wedding in July - the customer supplied this beautiful vintage teacup, and the mice are based on the Love Mouse Couple style, but quite a bit taller and holding a bunch of pink roses rather than a heart.
