Review Gemma Langdon in India Jaipur Teaching Program September 2014.
"Volunteering for a project in India is one of the most valuable experiences you will ever gain. I was teaching in a school that is under resourced and underprivileged in comparison to schools in UK but once you get into it and look past that you will see children who are just adorable! Their eagerness to learn is overwhelming, the children can literally not wait to see the books or resources I had brought and looked over these repeatedly. Yes the project was challenging, both mentally and physically, but anything worth doing never comes easily! The people here are amazing and I can almost guarantee that although your project has come to an end you yourself will not be ready to leave”

An old medical adage: "Frostbite in January, amputate in July". At the time frostbite happens you can't reliably judge how much frostbitten tissue will ultimately survive and experience shows that it pays to wait a few months before passing judgement with a scalpel. Again and again the record of observed experience over time turns out to be the most valuable part of medicine. (This poor gentleman had been stuck outside in the recent snowstorm).
I did have official office hours, alliteration and all. After a security upgrade from the IT people the online notes on my server became 100% safe by virtue of being inaccessible. But, boy, did they hate Lehmann and Winer's book.
Little known facts 3:
Just everyone knows that I am unemployed, and that this bout of work-less-ness has lasted longer than me or anyone would have predicted. It's scary, and hard and baffling and sometimes maddening. But it's also healthy and good and broadening my thinking, if that makes sense.
something I have played VERY close to the vest (like, I've talked about it with 4 friends total and no one else) is that I am considering getting licensed to teach in the state of Colorado. I am still processing this and considering how this would work, if it would make me happy, and all of the hoops I'd be jumping through. Perhaps arrogantly, I don't doubt that I'd be good at it. I also know how crucial and meaningful good teaching is and that even on my worst day in a classroom, being with kids is rewarding for me. I am still, however, deciding if this is where my skills and talents will be best aimed.
the first step is getting my (very weird Hampshire College) transcript together and getting evaluated so . . . there you go. Sharing is fun. LA!
I chose to take a photograph of my apartment here in Clemson, SC. I live in Crawford Falls, an apartment complex made up of about 7 buildings that is off a small road off 93. I moved into this apartment right at the beginning of my junior year. This was a significant move for me; previous to this I had moved alone in my parent’s condo in downtown Clemson. I lived alone for all of my sophomore year when all of my friends were in dorm rooms and sorority halls. The beginning of junior year, all of my friends moved in to Crawford Falls; it was brand new, exciting, and it seemed as if all of my friends had moved there. While all of my friends were settling together in their new apartments, I will still alone already all settled in my parent’s condo. I quickly became aware of how much I was alone and how much they were together, and although it was no one’s fault, I became very sad and couldn’t help but cry myself to sleep at night. Finally, my parents reminded me that they owned that condo for themselves, and if I was lonely I should be living with my friends – that’s what college is all about! So, by complete luck, I went to the leasing company for Crawford Falls and was able to move in to the same building as all of my other friends! I now live with two of my good friends and I am surrounded by even more. The picture of my apartment building reminds me of how happy I am now and how much fun I have living next to all of my very best friends.
Are perspex screens and social distancing going to be enough to continue lecture-style teaching? Well, if you're doing chemistry demonstrations, you're probably used to using protective screens. A subtle point here, but see how the screen distorts the lecturer and light reflections can make it difficult to see? How might that affect some students who depend on being able to see and hear the lecturer clearly?

On Wednesday the 29th of June 2021 in Farnham, Quebec, the Basic Military Officer Qualification (BMOQ) serial M0022E/F0009E also known by their platoon number Bravo (B) 22 had the opportunity to experience the new rappel tower for the first time. Some candidates battling the demon of heights and others as comfortable as jumping into the local swimming pool, this sunny afternoon brought a lot of learning, teaching, and trusting your equipment.

Twice a year, students leave WSU and go from preservice teachers to ACTUAL teachers! It's a bittersweet time, with both smiles and tears.
