Well, not really. This "hardy tapioca" or "wild cassava" is Manihot grahamii, a close relative of Manihot esculenta, the plant whose tubers are dried and processed into the pearls that become that stuff you can eat for dessert.

 

Photographed in the extraordinary private garden of botanists Margaret and the late Harlan Lewis, former dean of Life Sciences at UCLA.
