This is a photo of some tapas which I had the night before I left Spain.
Cheese, ham and bread, oh of course and a small libation! Very tasty.
The ham is called " Jamon Serrano" or Jamón Iberico, which is a salt cured, dried ham similar to prosciutto from Italy. This particular plate has Jamon Iberico which is considered a higher quality than the regular 'serrano' ham. Both are delicious and expensive (around $80 - $90 /pound here in the US!).
The cheese is goat cheese, "Menchanga" from La Mancha, (from Don Quixote, the Man from La Mancha). I'm not a goat cheese lover, but this stuff is really good, or perhaps it was the beer!
The bread was especially good also!
TAPAS are basically bar snack foods.
They may be chicken pieces (wings) egg "tortillas" (sort of an egg omlett cut into squares), cheeses in various forms, little sausages and a delicious "Patatas Bravas" which is basically a very tasty form of french fried potatoes served with a spicey sauce.
The only reason I didn't have any patatas bravas in this photo is the tavern did not have a french frier!
They obviously serve Coca Cola in Spain!!!
Albóndigas con salsa de tomate (Meat Balls with tomato sauce; Fleischbällchen mit Tomatensauce); Chuleta de cordero (Lamb chop; Lammkotelett); Chorizo a la parilla (grilled chorizo; gegrillte Paprikawurst); Chipirones fritos (fried baby squids; frittierte Baby-Tintenfische); Papas arrugadas con mojo rojo (canarian potatoes with tomato sauce; kanarische Kartoffeln mit Tomatensauce); Patatas bravas (fried potato wedges; frittierte Kartoffelecken)

The hostel organized a tapas, sangria, & flamenco night. I met this lovely Australian couple, Annette & Nick, and we went out dancing to bad 90s music with the group.
