Tangled Tree, flowing water, life and time's on Dartmoor.

...I had a fascinating time watching a group of squirrels leaping from tree to tree today - they almost looked like flying foxes! The trees are now leafless enough to see them doing this. Great waste of time! :)

Candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. Tangled headphones and a gust of icy wind tangling her hair across her face, I couldn't resist getting a shot. There also seems to be a bokeh woman almost tripping in a puddle behind. Inclement weather makes for some great street photography, enjoy!

Happy fence Friday, stay safe

Yosemite Valley, California

The title is inspired by the concluding paragraph of “The Origin of Species” (1859) by Charles Darwin:

“It is interesting to contemplate a tangled bank, clothed with many plants of many kinds, with birds singing on the bushes, with various insects flitting about, and with worms crawling through the damp earth, and to reflect that these elaborately constructed forms, so different from each other, and dependent upon each other in so complex a manner, have all been produced by laws acting around us [….] Thus, from the war of nature, from famine and death, the most exalted object which we are capable of conceiving, namely, the production of the higher animals, directly follows. There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed by the Creator into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being evolved.”

"Thinking, tangling shadows in deep solitude. You are far away too, oh farther than anyone."

~Pablo Neruda

All fluffed up for winter the sparrow hunkers down out of the driving snow and 21F temperatures.

I find sparrows are hard to identify. This could be a song sparrow or perhaps a fox sparrow where the dark spot on the breast is covered by a passing snow flake. Both are common to Oregon in February.

I found this tree late this afternoon (obviously at sunset) at a rural intersection. Traffic was rather busy but when I saw this tree I knew I had to get a shot of it. I found it quite unique.

American Sycamore tree silhouetted against a cloudy winter sky.

Anyone know what this is?

I've sent a jpg to our local nursery . . . hoping for an ID!

This summer has been unusual. We have had many rains and different kinds of grasses have multiplied. This is my favorite grass because of the graceful seedheads. I think the monotone helps to accentuate their beauty.

Tangle of power lines in downtown Galveston, Texas.

Walking the trail to Dog Mountain. It's ~2.5km each way. A nice afternoon stroll. At least... it is in snowshoes. This time of year it was brutal! Every footstep risked a twisted ankle.

Something about these jellies makes them absolutely mesmerizing. I could probably sit for hours watching them swim.
