I spotted these people as they sat at the tables provided by Gordy's for their customers, a large boat sales and accessories and storage business. Gordy's also has a snack shack with slightly expensive but good sandwiches and cold drinks available.

A very nice dinner of 3 recipes (and 5 pots!) from the Food Network show, Heartland Table. We used Alaskan Cod for the Fish recipe because that was what was available, nice, fresh and clean. It was also out of season for the Chestnuts, so we substituted 1/2 cup of Macadamia nuts, what we had in the pantry, for the Pilaf. Lastly the carrots were excellent, the recipe is here.

This is the Reflected Wedges Table Runner by Jacquie Gering from "Modern Patchwork" special edition published by Quilting Daily. I wanted to try it out before using some of my better fabrics so I used some inexpensive batiks I had leftover from a Christmas project. Its a nice pattern -went together easily and I'm looking forward to trying it in several other color/pattern combinations-but these JoAnn batiks are a great less expensive option.

Table runner top...how do you like it partner? I plan on using double batting and only quilting the windows. I think that will make the linen lattice pop really nicely and make it semi heatproof for your table :)

This is good, except it cut of the bird finial....fussy me.

My lovely friend Natasha was willing to step in and be the model for the day. :)

This is what I did with the tulips and redbud....found these dishes a long time ago in Oregon. They are really old transferware with a blown fuhsia tulip design. Every year I try to do one frou-frou table setting with them. This is it...

An imposing twelve-sided table

Estimate: PHP 1,200,000 - 1,400,000

First quarter, 20th century

Laguna

Narra and kamagong, kamagong inlays

83 x 224 x 224 cm (32 1/2 x 88 x 88 in)

Provenance:

Formerly from the family of Candelaria Moldes Santos, wife of Col. Leopoldo Santos, Philippine army and guerilla fighter during the Japanese occupation

Made in the Bilibid Prison which, from the early American colonial period until the end of the first half of the 20th century, manufactured high quality household and office furniture as part of its program to rehabilitate prisoners in preparation for their reintegration into mainstream society. Their outputs were arguably unrivaled in terms of craftsmanship, design and prolificity.

A rare 12-sided top, made of solid one-piece narra wood, framed by precious kamagong wood carved around the edges with acanthus gadrooning. To harvest wood with a girth this size - over 7 feet across when finished - the felled giant tree must be well over a hundred years old. Each conforming side of the frieze is carved with foliated scrolls centering an anthemion flower inscribed with C-volute. The heavy base is made of two crossed curule seat-shaped legs carved with foliated scrolls bordered by broad kamagong inlays, and undulate with winged rosettes, connected to a huge, turned central cylinder with flutings surmounted by scrolled arches and a finial. The lion’s paws with winged extensions embody immense strength and power.

Overall, the workmanship is quite remarkable, displaying great detailed carvings and decorations alluding to the Italian Neoclassical style that was popular in the early 19th century. A classic, timeless statement piece that will surely draw exclamations of surprise and admiration. Found in Santa Rosa, Laguna.

Table leg.

A leg of a funky table.

Said to be the elephant's closest living relative (the elephant must not have any close relatives), these cat-sized things are found in Africa and the Middle East, and, according to the net: "early Phoenician navigators mistook the rabbits of the Iberian Peninsula for hyraxes (Hebrew Shaphan); hence they named it I-Shapan-im, meaning "land of the hyraxes", which became the Latin word "Hispania", the root of Spain's modern Spanish name España and the English name Spain..."

- For your inner zoologist: "The order first appears in the fossil record over 40 million years ago, and for millions of years they were the primary terrestrial herbivore in Africa. There were many species, the largest @ the weight of a small horse, the smallest the size of a hummingbird. In the Miocene, however, competition from the newly-developed bovids—very efficient grazers and browsers—pushed hyraxes out of the prime territory and into marginal niches... Some of the descendants of the giant hyracoids evolved to become smaller, and gave rise to the modern hyrax family. Others appear to have taken to the water, and ultimately gave rise to the elephant family, and perhaps also the Sirenians (dugongs and manatees). DNA evidence supports this theory, and modern hyraxes share features with elephants such as toenails, excellent hearing, sensitive pads on their feet, small tusks, good memory, high brain functions compared to other similar mammals, and the shape of some of their bones ... They retain a number of early mammal characteristics; e.g. they have poorly developed internal temperature regulation (which they deal with by huddling together for warmth, and by basking in the sun like reptiles)." Looking over Cape Town from the summit of Table Mountain, South Africa.

Table Mountain

Capetown, South Africa

I needed a pedestal to raise the table saw a few inches. The table saw was too low for me in any case, but it was especially important because it is my intention that every bench and work table I make for the shop will be at the same level as the top of the table saw, so it has to be a comfortable working height.

The extension table has a couple support legs with the adjusting feet seen at left. So with the table saw elevated on a pedestal, I'll replace the feet hardware with wooden risers. The risers have hanger bolts epoxied into them that will use the same threads in the extension legs as the adjusting feet.

The ones at right were the first set I made. I cut them from a milled 2x4 with the bolts inserted into the edge grain, but the resulting risers were too short. So I ripped the 2x4 and inserted the bolts into the end grain of slightly longer pieces (at center).

The bolts are not quite true. My 1940s era drill press spindle is still square to the table, but the wooden fence I made for it in 2015 is not exactly square, and I drilled the holes by holding the pieces firmly against the fence. I'll see how much this matters when I finally install the new feet between the legs and the floor. I need to make a new drill press table and fence soon anyway.

I have become almost addicted to the tidy little 45 degree edge chamfer I get from running the parts across my router. Makes everything look more finished.

And two <3 <3 on it.
