Found a weird table setup in the gazebo. The scene was too good to pass up.

Many thanks to Tim Baskerville for organizing the event.

View from Black Estate Winery over looking the Waipara Valley, Canterbury, New Zealand. October 6, 2013.

The Waipara Valley is situated in North Canterbury, only 40 minutes drive north of Christchurch International Airport and Christchurch city, the capital of the South Island. It is the fastest growing wine region in New Zealand with around 80 vineyards in the Waipara valley covering more than 1,200 hectares of plantings.

The Waipara Valley is snuggled in the lee of the Teviotdale hills that provide protection from cool easterly winds but open to warming north west winds. The valley has three general sites, valley floor, hill slopes or river terraces. The soil types include; gravely deposits on flats and terraces in the central and west of the valley, limestone derived clays on hillsides and valley floor to the eastern side and gravely loams over alluvial subsoil in the southern part of the region. The north facing moderately sloping terrain provides an ideal sun trap for fruiting vines.

This gives each vineyard unique characters that contribute to a range of wine styles that demand a visit to each winery to fully appreciate Waipara. The "Terroir" combined with the long hot autumn period helps produce unique richer, spicier pinot noirs and rieslings – regional specialties. Other varieties of note include Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

We found a Saarinen calacatta marble tulip dining table at the giant DWR warehouse sale over the weekend for 40% off the retail price. The edges are a bit chewed up here and there, but still very good condition overall. I wasn't expecting the table to be so heavy, so as Jacek and I unloaded the table from the truck, I nearly destroyed our new purchase when my arms gave out and the table came close to crashing to the street! Luckily I regained my strength at the last minute. I should've known it would be heavy, it's marble!

The table, almost all set for the main meal on Boxing Day.

This desk was created by one of our customers. Modeled after the Maker Bench, it adds drawers, a shelf and a nicely finished wood shelf. Find our more at www.simplifiedbuilding.com

You may have breakfast with champagne or lunch on board Skibladner. Stylish!

Before the food, because once that was on the table there was no stopping the vultures! :)

Earlier in the week this train was held at Culcairn on it's journey south due to the flash flooding that shut the line near Wangaratta.

Lynn shot this just as the osprey set the table with his prized Sea trout. He did not invite us to share it with him.

After a day in London, I went to my son's house for a barbecue meal with him and his family. While he got the food ready, I sat and drank a welcome glass of beer sitting in his garden at a glass-topped table šŸ˜€

This is the side of my outdoor wicker table.

My mom likes to go all out when decorating the table for Christmas Dinner. She goes to similar lengths for Thanksgiving.

We rescued this table many years ago from a closing department store. I'm not sure what it was used for in the store but now it is my porch potting table and hold all...

This is a huge table runner I sewed up using about 75 pieces of selvedge. I machine sewed each strip by top stitching it to a piece of white fabric and continually added each selvedge strip over the previous strip and top stitched to the one below leaving about 3/4 of an inch of the printed fabric showing. I backed it using the same white fabric. The top and bottom borders were made from scrap selvedges used in the runner. The colors were positioned from red, orange, yellow, green, blue, pink, brown, black (no purple as I don't have any purple fabric - I guess purple isn't my color!). On the center of the table runner, I used selvedges from my many multi-colored fabrics and positioned them vertically to break up all the horizontal lines.

I guess I gotta buy a bunch of new fabric to build up my selvedge stash again!
