Day 4 of our Mediterranean cruise aboard the Celebrity Reflection ended up being a formal night. It was originally scheduled for our first day at sea; but given the rough waters that day, they pushed it to our second day at sea. Unfortunately, Mike decided to pass on our formal-night dinner in the Opus dining room as he wasn't feeling well; but I enjoyed a lovely meal with the two Australian couples that were our tablemates for the duration of the cruise. After I snapped a group photo of both couples -- Wendy & Laurie Jorgensen and Garry & Pam Monteith -- Wendy offered to take a photo of me and the Monteiths with my camera. So here I am in formal dress (not that you can really tell, since it was black) between our new friends Garry and Pam.

... from material bought in Cameroon, celebrating 50 years of the European Union.

I managed to crank out 4 table toppers before I lost interest last night: these two brown ones, a chartreuse one just like them, and a red one that's more of a circle than a flower. I plan to keep these two in the living room on this corner table, and the others will probably go down to the family room to replace the few that have gone missing since I crocheted my first batch.

Ink on white napkin.

We make these colored napkins daily for our two sons' lunches. They are both in grade school. We started these with our first son when he began first grade (5 years ago). These napkins have become fun to share with their tablemates, classes, and teachers.

It's been a while now since I played with my scanner: there's no particular reason, I don't think, except that I've had other things to do.

This is a Betterwear free gift (it says so on the other side): a small mug-sized table mat in robust yellow plastic. I'd guess it's from the 1960s. We picked up a set of them for a few pence at a jumble sale, some twenty years ago, and as is clear from the picture, they get well used.

Betterwear - not to be confused with Betterware, which is a modern, extant company - sold household goods door to door during the 1950s and 60s. At some point, I don't know when, they became part of the Kleeneze company of Bristol. Strangely, I couldn't find much information about a firm which seemed to have been quite active in my childhood. Does anybody have any information sources, please?

These coiled mats are made from scraps of fabric wrapped around a cord. I like using different shades of the same colour in one mat--aren't these teal blues great?

Given a range of subjects to pick from, I think it fair to say this wouldn't have been one I'd have picked for myself. It's done though, and today's model was rather tasty.

Proverbs 9:1-6

"Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn her seven pillars. She has slaughtered her beasts; she has mixed her wine; she has also set her table. She has sent out her young women to call from the highest places in the town, "Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!" To him who lacks sense she says, "Come, eat of my bread and drink of the wine I have mixed. Leave your simple ways, and live, and walk in the way of insight.""

Tried doing an HDR of the table setup as the candle was lighting things just perfectly but I couldn't get it to work so settled for this one. I know the candle is blown out but I didn't have the time to try a bracketted exposure. I liked this one in black and white.
