The evening draws to a close at Portmeirion Village in North Wales – and what better way of ending the day than with a nightcap? In this case, perfectly created gaelic coffees to relax the mind and prepare for sleep...

A kerosene lamp (usually called a paraffin lamp in some countries) is a type of lighting device that uses kerosene (paraffin) as a fuel. Kerosene lamps have a wick or mantle as light source, protected by a glass chimney or globe; lamps may be used on a table, or hand-held lanterns may be used for portable lighting. Like oil lamps, they are useful for lighting without electricity, such as in regions without rural electrification, in electrified areas during power outages, at campsites, and on boats. There are three types of kerosene lamp: flat wick, central draught (tubular round wick), and mantle lamp. Kerosene lanterns meant for portable use have a flat wick and are made in dead flame, hot blast, and cold blast variants.

#53 Night Light of the I'm Still Standing Treasure Hunt

Out for a wander around Rye with other members of Bexhill photo club. It was bitterly cold, but no rain.

This shot was taken looking right through the windows either side of a royal carriage at the National Railway Museum in York. The settees, which are on the opposing platform, are framed by the carriage window. Due to reflections the table lamp is not actually were it appears to be. York, UK.

my table lamp looking at me expectantly

A Tiffany lamp that I'd bought recently. And I'm so happy with it that I want to share it. It's a modern lamp inspired by Art Deco.

Tiffany lamps are lamps made of stained glass, but instead of lead, copper foil with solder is used. Tiffany lamps are stronger and lighter as the original stained glass ones.

I have recently started using an external 500GB Lexar SSD as my primary photo drive. It is very light, compact and has an indication of space used on the front as you can see (1/5 used now). The LaCie is primary backup drive 1TB and I am probably replacing this with another Lexar SSD like the one shown as it is so light. Secondary backup is to a Buffalo Linkstation Pro Quad 12TB mirrored drive (RAID 1) server for the time being.

Christmas tableau at Blickling Hall, the magnificent National Trust property in Aylsham, Norfolk.

I don't know exactly why, but this is one of my favorite pictures of a lamp that I have ever taken. It's a simple lamp, nothing really special about it. But there is just something about it, maybe its the pattern of light it emits. Whatever it is, I like it.

Table lamp image edited in Lightroom 5, Topaz Studio (using a custom setting, which you'll find under the "Conceptual" heading) and then Photoshop Elements 11 (for re-sizing, etc).

Another piece of Delft Ceramic work. This piece is in Doelenplein - Goal Square.

The large table lamp placed in Doelenplein Square in 2010is an artwork by Chinese artist Wan Li Ya. It is now classified as a national treasure.

Wan Li Yais is a well-known ceramist. The Delft municipality purchased the lamp to emphasize Delft is a city of ceramics. It also relates to the historic relationship between Delft Blue ceramics and Chinese porcelain.
