PNNL researchers are learning more about the structure, properties and reactivity of titanium dioxide materials with different crystal facets -- like the one here known as 401 facet-dominated anatase -- to help improve catalysts and potentially customize their properties for different applications. By carefully synthesizing materials with desired morphology and with uniform active surface centers, researchers gain information on where reactions are taking place. With support from DOE’s Basic Energy Sciences Program, this research, coupled with molecular modeling and simulation of crystal surfaces, provide insights into the reactivity of each single crystal facet. This integrated approach to study the relationship between the crystal structure, properties and reactivity provides researchers with the necessary tools to design materials that specifically target redox active compounds, such as vanadium dioxide, that may be used to achieve specific catalytic requirements.

The Museum’s sophisticated geometry synthesizes structural and programmatic organizations resulting in a new landmark building celebrating a legendary car. The geometric model employed is based on the trefoil organization. The building’s program is distributed over the surfaces which ascend incrementally from ground level, spiraling around a central atrium. The Museum experience begins with visitors traveling up through the atrium to the top floor from where they follow the two main paths that unfold chronologically as they descend through the building. The two main trajectories, one being the car and truck collection and the other consisting of historical displays called the Legend rooms, spiral downwards on the perimeter of the display platforms, intersecting with each other at several points allowing the visitor to change routes.

Hologlyphics are animated spatial visuals seen in full 3D without glasses. Although not the same technical process as holography, the visual result is the same, a True 3D image with full horizontal parallax. Horizontal parallax allows you not only to see the animation in 3D, but also to see all views of the animation scene within a 90 degree viewing range. As you walk left to right, the perspective of the image changes as in the real world.
The animations are also synched to music and sound.

Buenos Aires, Argentina
Is it possible to synthesize the soul of a city through photographs of its buildings? The work of Michele Molinari heads in that direction, overlooking the Buenos Aires of historic monuments and focusing on the common dwellings that stud the skyline of the porteña city. They are boundary lines by day and by night, suburban intersections trying to spur on the vertical expansion of the city. Molinari’s interesting experiment is to go back to the same places after a period of time to crystalize the changes and witness the immanence of certain corners of the urban fabric. – A. Trabucco
How emotional it is to admire Buenos Aires at dusk. The passers-by are hurrying along the sidewalks and distractedly look at the camera lens. With curious or perplexed glances. […] The essence of the obscurity is easier to enjoy in the quieter neighborhoods. […] The sense of calm even appears to reach the historic center in one of the few photos of monumental Buenos Aires included in the book. The circle closes. Every splintered scrap of the urban fabric is recomposed under the protective wing of the night. – A. Mauri

As we were listening to a soundscape performance of synthesized music at the Hammer Museum, I kept my eye on this spot lit area on the other side of the room. I was hoping to capture a moment when I could see people in an interesting pose with their shadow behind them. It was a lot harder than I thought. Because the museum was crowded that night, most of the time indistinguishable clusters of people moved through the scene. I succeeded with a few shots, with the effort helping me appreciate Cartier-Bresson’s notion of the “decisive moment,” when all the elements of a scene magically align to form an interesting composition.

This project is part of the Ars Electronica Garden Prague. Photosynthetic Landscapes is to present algae as photosynthetic organism against greenery loss in the urban environment, with its related growth in CO2 and impact on diminished quality of public space. The spaces in Kepler's gardens and their flora contrast with the technologically grounded Photosynthetic Landscapes prototype: a modular, organic system that pushes the boundaries of thinking about the penetration of nature and technology in the context of an environmentally-oriented spatial installation.

still flowering. Foxglove (Digitalis purpurea)
Witches' Gloves. Dead Men's Bells. Fairy's Glove. Gloves of Our Lady. Bloody Fingers. Virgin's Glove. Fairy Caps. Folk's Glove. Fairy Thimbles.
The shape of the blossoms give the herb its name, as the glove shaped flowers resembled gloved fingers and the name foxglove is an allusion to the white paws of the common red fox.
The foxglove was originally used by the Irish as healing herb in the folk medicine of Ireland to treat skin problems such as boils and ulcers, as well as headaches and paralysis. The main chemical compound found in the foxglove plant is a glycoside called digitoxin; this chemical compound has been chemically isolated in the laboratory and is now artificially synthesized as well. The compound is employed as a major medication, called digitalis, used in the treatment of congestive heart failure and to right congenital heart defects in patients. The contraction of cardiac muscles is strengthened and boosted by the digitoxin; the compound also slows the pulsation rate of the human heart. Foxglove also contains one more important glycoside called digoxin; this compound has a diuretic effect on the kidneys and is used in some medications. The reason for the traditional fear of the foxglove herb is that any of the chemicals found in the plant are extremely dangerous when ingested in high doses by humans or animals. The compounds in the herb can induce cardiac rhythm disorders, sudden depression, heart failure or asphyxiation if they are ingested in large quantities.
It has also been employed in the treatment of internal haemorrhage, in inflammatory diseases, in delirium tremens, in epilepsy, in acute mania and various other diseases, with real or supposed benefits.
Digitalis is also an excellent antidote in Aconite poisoning, given as a hypodermic injection.
Not a plant to be used without extreme caution as it is highly toxic.
Young leaves are generally light green because they emerge without fully synthesized chlorophyll. The new growth on this yew shrub contrasts with the year-old leaves, which are dark green. Each new branchlet represents a module, adding to the larger modules produced by last year;s growth.
Chlorophyll is expensive for the plant to produce (for one thing it is high in trace elements like nitrogen and magnesium). When the threat of a late frost is still present, a chlorophyll-laden leaf would be an unfortunate sacrifice to cold weather. Plants have evolved to form chlorophyll conservatively in the spring in order to minimize this possibility. The synthesis of chlorophyll requires numerous enzymes as well as energy-rich molecules like ATP. Investing these resources is expensive, and this is another reason that leaves at risk "wait" before producing chlorophyll.

Draw-downs in defense spending by the United States and many of its security partners have increased the urgency of leveraging and synthesizing national defense capabilities in support of shared interests.A federated approach to security architectures can knit together a community that understands each other and works more closely and professionally every day.
A mind map is a graphical way to represent information, ideas and concepts. It helps you to analyze, comprehend, synthesize, recall and generate new ideas better. Just as every great idea, its power lies in its simplicity. Mindmapping engages your brain in a much richer way, both analytical and aristic manner. Best of all, it is FUN! Let us start off by creating your very first mindmap.
Step 1: Decide A Topic
This determines the focus of your mindmap. It should be no more than a few words. By keeping your topic simple, you will be able to understand more aspects of it through mindmapping. Place that topic in the center of the page, preferably in bold or CAPITALISED letters.
Step 2: Set Your Creativity Free
Illustrate your mindmap with images and different colours to represent its content. Our brains associate pictures and colours better than plain text.
Step 3: Generating Ideas
Start writing what comes to your mind. Be very succinct in your choices of words as you mindmap. Keep it to as little words as possible.
Step 4: Continue Branching
Branch out from your main topic and extend your thoughts from one idea to the next. Draw lines between the thoughts to create lateral thinking. Form different branches for your sub-topics as necessary.
That's all you need to take notice for your mindmapping. For practical examples, give us a call.
Our SUPERTUTORs shall guide you and your child step-by-step.
