The new PRATO lighting products are artesanal, hand-finished brass also known as "French brass". Brass is a noble material, highly valued for recreating interiors with a Mediterranean style. The PRATO collection allows you to combine exclusive switchplates with matching FEDE switches and electrical mechanisms from the FIRENZE and SIENA collections which are of the same style. Our new concept, "Switch & Light by FEDE", dresses the walls and ceiling of your interiors with an exquisite and refined decorative style. Sublime details that make the difference.
Here is one of those stories I just can't pass up. This is the switch plate in the bed room. When I was prepping the room to paint it, I took off the plate. What I found was this: It was packed solid with mouse poo. When I brought the shop vac in to vaccum it up and.....The sound of the vac kept going and going and going......
It was as if the walls were filled....UG!

8/15-8/17: The countertops, floor and cabinet trim, the sink, garbage disposal, lighting and appliances are all installed along with the electrical sockets and switchplates. We got a new range and hood but kept our old dishwasher and refrigerator so the appliances don't match. Almost done now!
New SIENA Light Collection
Our journey to Toscana inspired us to create the new SIENA lighting collection.

1950s/1960s vintage atomic outlet cover. Cool 50s/60s retro amoeba shape. I think it was either Teak or Walnut. These were at an Estate Sale and I wanted these so BAD, but they were $11 each - and there was a bidding war for them, so I had to pass. Sorry for the super bad picture quality, it was taken with a cell phone camera.
Sitting, rocking on the porch, her eye happened to fall upon an electrical plug-in plate set into the baseboard. Probably so folks could come out here in the summertime and listen to the radio or even have the baseball on that cute little round TV. Nothing in the whole country more common than those little wall-plates with the prong-slits in them. She’d even had them back in her squatter’s shack in Hemingford. You didn’t think nothing of those plates… unless they didn’t work anymore. Then you realized that one hell of a lot of a person’s life came out of them. All that spare time, that pleasure which the long-ago Don King had extolled her on… it came out of those switchplates set into the wall. With their potency taken away, you might as well use all those gadgets like the microwave oven and the ‘trash masher’ to hang your hat and coat on. (Stephen King, The Stand 640)
The world relies on electricity. Everything needs electricity to function. When the power goes out, our lives are put on hold. We need electricity. Strip us of this dangerous discovery and society would be in shambles.
This project illustrates how our lives are ruled by electricity. I use dramatic lighting and contrast to set a sense of urgency. The photos are slightly unnerving. The light beckons to the viewer, calling him/her closer, only to establish its power over society.
I think it is quite a bit differently shaped (bigger, lower, angle, or something) than the 38 weeks picture.
Sprouting from behind my boob is the dragonfly switchplate from Ebay that matches the baby stuff.
This switch/tie plate is stamped CM&StP, from a Chicago, Milwaukee & Gary switch that was just removed last week in DeKalb, IL, to make room for a highway-widening project along Peace Road. It still had a working switch stand, which was also removed (sadly, not by me).
I collected as many of these as I could. Having a piece of the CM&G is pretty rare!
