I want to buff this one more time. It's not shiny enough to suit me. :)
I was experimenting with the watercolor technique.
This Dolly Toy Co. lamp is one of my favorite belongings. I had a lamp just like this when I was a child and nothing makes me happier than to find those items that I have lost between childhood and now.
So, when I stumbled across the switchplate on Etsy that matched, I was stunned. Even more notable is the condition that the switchplate is in... almost 40 years later.
My friend and mentor Alice and her late husband Tom cleverly wallpapered their bathroom with New Yorker covers. I was at her house yesterday to help celebrate her birthday with an apple cake I'd brought and happened to have the camera in my hand when I went into the "little room" off the kitchen. I love how the mirrored switchplate reflects the covers on the other side of the room.
A polymer clay switchplate cover I made for our home -- I wrote about this on our blog:

This is from my series of assemblages on etsy moonwild. I used found metal pieces and old photos and odd pieces of found text, such as the title, to create these pieces.
This piece is built on a 3 by 5 Light Switchplate. The wings are cut from copper with my trusty Dremel. Her face is a glass orb backed by an angelic image with a mica halo. The vase is a tiny antique bottle holding a spring of yarrow from my herb garden. Her dangly legs are wires with beads and old keys. The angel has a hanger on the back for easy display
This custom ordered light switch plate has a handsculpted Hyacinth Macaw and Greenwing Macaw. No paints or molds were used.
This was a custom order and is not for sale, please see my Flickr profile for further information about my clay art.

After I made the switch plate cover, I realized I really needed to fill in the black gaps. So I also made little polymer clay "bricks" to go above & below the switch plate cover.
* I used the flash on this photo to show the shiny finish on the other bricks. I used Future on my polymer clay "bricks" to try & match this.
Update: Blogged here
Single light switch made with metallic copper clay imbedded with live nasturtium blossoms and leaves. Highlighted with verdigris paint and copper metallic embellishment.
