Haven’t gone far but some french wine is looming

Tate Exchange is a workshop area at Tate Modern and I went in to see what was going on. Some pencils were in need of sharpening so, of course, I had to do it 😀

A Hermione wand I made for my sister. Turned the cone shape from a 7/8” diameter birch dowel on a lathe, I then penciled on the vine pattern. I used a little pocket knife to carve out the pattern. It was fun to make; my goal now is to make the whole collection.

Update 1: I just finished Dumbledore's wand, it can be seen here: www.flickr.com/photos/actionatadistance/1495526380/

Update 2: Etsy Shop now open with Luna, Dumbledore, and Hermione style wands: Click here

My daughter found this small Swiss Army knife at the thrift store the other day.

I had never seen the blade to the right before, so I looked at the Victorinox website and found out the knife is called the Executive, and the blade is used for peeling oranges.

Crawley Camera Club is holding the second round of the print competition this evening so I must mount four prints.

This is a photograph taken in Albania

Sunny all day, but still coolish in the shade in the morning - not so much in the afternoon. I did some cleaning and accidentally got into sorting out a kitchen cupboard and part of the garage! Useful to identify things to take to bin, recycle, or charity shops though :-) I also found some old plastic-covered cloth which I'd rescued a year or two ago from when my daughter's workmen were using it to put all the rubbish in, and it was headed for the tip until I rescued it and cleaned it up. It was used on our outside table for one season. Anyway, it was still good for more use, to I put it on the kitchen table to replace the cloth I didn't much like, and I recovered the two wooden stool seat pads with it too - result!

We had lunch in the garden. Although we haven't put up the event shelter - and I wonder if we ever will again? - we had the shade of a parasol, and it was lovely to be able to sit and enjoy looking at the garden.

I went for a bike ride in the afternoon, to get out into the sunshine - wonderful! Did a loop ride to Bibury - the opposite way to the way I usually go, which made it more interesting.

The vintage Hot Wheels I'd bought on eBay arrived too, so I had to check that out - some good replacement bits for some of my old ones which had broken.

I belong to a group Independent Photography in the South East, this extra booklet came with the latest newsletter I am about to slit the red sticker concealing the contents.

This is what I carry around daily in my bag. Look at the tags for further description. Also include my iPhone, Gshock watch and paracord bracelet which i forgot to put in.

I was going to take a photo of salt crystals but I noticed that the salt grinder had got bunged up so, using my tool of choice, the Swiss Army Knife, I poked it out.

Garden afternoon ( again) should do more but doing less lately

Made in China now, bloody hell, what next… got this one after a gentle prompt, “Her in-doors” , didn’t mind if I collected another, so for my new #sakedc in my airpocket will be this 4 layer with all the tools I may need including the very useful magnifying lens. Especially handy while shopping and avoiding those foreign imported products from China…

Just found out from Google that CH is not short for China, but....

Why is ch the symbol for Switzerland?

The Helvetii, a Celtic tribe who battled Julius Caesar, gave their name to the Swiss territory. The Latin name for the country, Helvetia, still appears on Swiss stamps. The letters CH appearing on Swiss cars and in internet addresses stand for the Latin words Confoederatio Helvetica, meaning Swiss Confederation.1 May 2017

Checking in to my emails and there was one from Amazon telling me my parcel had been delivered.

Opened it with my Alox 7 pruning knife and admired the finish, & tools, especially the magnifying lens. Then took this shot and then off to the office and set up my collection of SAKs and took a set of photos with the a6000 and a few iPhone shots through the legs of the tripod...

Spent the rest of the day adding NOTES, comments, links and images to Groups...

New name I just heard on YouTube..

Items fastened to my backpack that I am never without.

A limited edition Victorinox Harvester Swiss Army Knife with chocolate brown alox scales (SwissBianco ~ 2016), with a short leather fob and 3 pass gaucho interweave knot of 1.4mm cord over a wooden bead. Also shown is my seven year old Fenix E15 LED flashlight (1xCr123A).

My son gave me a Quality Street Advent calendar - I'm opening today's door with my handy penknife.

I wanted to take this photo of me sitting on the bench so I stuck my knife in the bench and propped my iPhone against it – then I took this photo with my Fuji X-T1

When one leaves the Dora Maar exhibition one is invited to write a comment. The pencil provided was rather blunt – so I sharpened it.

Yes, I'll admit it. I love collecting knives and I have lots of them. Owning any piece of gear from Victorinox is like keeping a part of history and the magnificent craftmanship with you forever. The model used in this photograph is the Victorinox Classic SD. Each color has its own beauty and I couldn't resist buying each one. Prolly gonna buy more.

I bought a pack of postcards and have just written one to my daughter – they are rather well glued in but the trusty Swiss Army Knife does the job of getting it out.

Something you often carry with you has been chosen as today's topic for the Our Daily Challenge group.

1 Keys

2= wallet, iPhone

4= notebook, knife

Without my keys, I couldn't get back into my house so they have to be number one, but my knife is high on the list

This is a reprint of People I have Shot by James Jarché.

The original 1934 edition is very expensive second-hand, this modern photoproduced reprint is much cheaper. The text is clear but the photographs are very poor quality. Happily, there aren't very many in the book😳

I ordered it from India.

Hardly a day goes by when I do not use this tool. It has been used on expensive laboratory equipment, for 1st aid in animals and people (including myself), and for pulling broken blood feathers. The tweezers are the best for getting out splinters and for removing ticks. The toothpick, awl, magnifying glass, and tiny chisel are not open and in view. More than 20 tools in my pocket. And, yes, it's quite grungy.

I keep this miniature Swiss Army knife in my pocket. Small in size, it's huge in usefulness!

Have a fine new week, my Flickr friends!

From the very useful edc JS80 jumpstarter. It never go a chance to start #Smoky60Series but has done the Corolla a couple of times.

I keep this sak in the glovebox of my truck.

Made in Switzerland.

The screws which hold the arms that support the book on the little bookchair have worked loose so using a match stick and my handy penknife I'm fixing them :)

Paracord wrist lanyard in round crown sinnet with wall knot, two-strand stopper knot, made in USA swivel clip, with Vinnie Garoon Cowboy Beads in standard and mini sizes, provided to me by Schmuckatelli Co. Also shown attached to the lanyard is a limited edition Victorinox Yeoman MS from friend SwissBianco, that he gave me when I was hanging out at his booth at the 2015 Blade Show in Atlanta.

Lounging around the house on Sunday afternoon with simple edc of a SAK, flashlight, and multitool/prybar/wrench...

The Swiss Army Knife comes with this little key-ring on it, but it's too small to attach any keys to and is, presumably, to attach the knife to something else. I find it's a nuisance when using the knife so I've taken it off.

A few of my favourite things, for the Raindrops on Roses group.

1. Parcels

Especially when I have no idea what's inside.

2. My Moo cards

And my Moo stickers, and my Moo greetings cards. :¬)

3. Star Wars and Lego

And Star Wars Lego.

4. My Moo stickers

Did I already mention them?

5. Chocolate

Represented here by a Cadburys Chocolate Finger. BITROT TOP TIP: bite off the ends, dip into a cup of tea and suck hard. Biscuity chocolatey tea-flavoured mush drink ensues!

6. Tea

Represented here by a PG Tips pyramid bag. Has to go hand in hand with 5.

7. The Smiths

In this case, although you can't really make it out, I Know It's Over from The Queen Is Dead. "It takes guts to be gentle and kind" - what a superb sentiment, especially from a man who tried to diddle his bandmates out of squillions. ;¬)

8. My iPod

Trusty, scuffed and a PC user's small toe in the perilous water of Apple devotion. Don't worry, I've got it under control.

9. Ah, Rufus

Tickets to see Rufus Wainwright at the Apollo. Can't wait. I'm a proper devotee: he occupies at least 2 slots in my Desert Island Discs 8. Sometimes I think he might even turn me, then I remember all that stuff about cooing over curtains and I realise I'd be absolutely rubbish at it.

10. Threadless T-shirts

Represented here by the free stickers they send you with your order. Free stickers! With T-shirts!

11. 2GB USB memory stick

The DabsValue kind - no frills, just 2GB of stuff that clips to your keyring. Battle scarred now after being dropped too many times but it still works a treat - sort of like a Millennium Falcon of personal data storage.

12. Tiny Swiss Army Knife

Lives on my keyring along with 11. I keep forgetting it's there and keep having them confiscated at airports. I think this is knife #3.

13. Photography

Represented here by my lovely Lensbaby 2.0. I quite like taking pictures.

14. Films

Some favourites here, although the list will doubtless have changed within a week or two:

- E.T.

- The Incredibles

- Hot Fuzz

- Jaws

- The Big Lebowski

- Shaun of the Dead

BITROT TOP TIP: You might find the occasional Hot Fuzz reference in my photostream.

15. Diet Coke

My favourite carcinogen!

16. My guitar

A gorgeous Takamine jumbo-bodied electro-acoustic. It sounds wonderful, even with me playing it. BITROT FACT: I still don't know how to pronounce Takamine.

17. Guardian crossword by Araucaria

Araucaria is a genius. Spending a Saturday on one of his crosswords is a joy.

18. Music

Shown here:

- Favourite album: Ben Folds Five by Ben Folds Five

- Favourite comedian: Eddie Izzard (Bill Hicks in close 2nd)

- Favourite single: Ice Hockey Hair by Super Furry Animals

19. My phone

Never leave home without it, except for when I forget it.

20. My novels

I've written two children's novels and I'm very proud of both of them. This one is Katie's Zoo, attached to a very nice rejection letter from Chicken House.

21. The Remains of the Day

And books in general, but if I had to rescue one from a burning house this would be it. The book I wish I'd written.

22. Last but not least...

Bed. :¬)

As I was putting my trousers on this morning my knife fell out of my pocket – and landed on my foot 😢
