Attempt at a panning shot. I've done this before with cars and people on bikes, but getting a decent shot of a child on a swing proved to be incredibly difficult, because they do not move very far or very fast, and the chains get in the way.

We went to see Patty & Johnny, and played in the park while we waited for them.

An ordinary swing set, this is one of the original features of the playground where I went to school. As far as I can tell, the only non-original parts are the plastic sleeves covering the chains - even the seats look like the ones that have been there for many years. I have many memories surrounding this spot from the 8 years I spent at Plainfield Elementary.

SWING - Miranda Wine Festival 2019

Mina and Imriel have been dancing rockabilly jive for years but recently they've started learning lindy hop, which is much harder but also a lot of fun. Mina loves fast swing-outs, she feels like she's on a rollercoaster with the speed of the swing!

Apparently, she was enjoying this swing earlier and by the time I went over, she started getting really grumpy. All in the span of a few minutes.

Rida in the swing

This isn’t a brilliant photo but do you remember the days when as kids we would play on swings like this? I remember taking turns with my friends to see who could swing the highest without falling off. We would even attempt to jump across a stream like this when the swing was at it highest point. And, no matter how many times my mother would tell me not to take risks, invariably I would fall short of the mark and find myself in the stream, soaking wet, a bit bruised and bleeding and having to go home and when mum would ask me 'why did you disobey me' I would explain her that ‘the devil made me do it’ or ‘I just couldn’t help it’.

They were great days - most of the time we collected rope ourselves from our dads’ sheds and the boys would tie them as strongly as they could. Our dads would bore a few holes in a plank of wood, secure the ropes to the base and off to go - we would climb trees to secure the swing. I was a terrible tomboy and could climb as well as any boy.

I sat on this swing for a good while just reminiscing. Can you imagine kids being allowed to get up to these sort of things today with all the Health and Safety rules around. Do you remember those days?

This business was started in 1964 and is still going. I've purchased a few guitars, amps and tons of stuff at one of their other locations way back in the day.

Edmund posed dutifully on the swing - and got a push into the bargain.
