Swift Campout is a loosely organized (if at all) event, in a way, where people are encouraged to go on overnight bicycle camping trips. The first Swift Campout was organized by Swift Industries, a Seattle-based company that makes bags and accessories for bicycle touring, about 5 years ago as a means of self promotion (it seems) and to encourage group rides and exploration of parks and campgrounds within an easy ride.
The allegedly-waterproof lining of the porteur bag I'm using on the GT is flaking and falling off, so I need to sew up a new porteur bag. Fortunately I was sent one to make a rack for, so I got the chance to take some photos before sending it (and the rack) back.

The swift is a medium-sized aerial bird, which is a superb flier.... so far challenging bird to photograph... challenge is still on..
I have been trying to get a decent Swift in flight for years, so when I saw them down by the river in Bucknall, Lincolnshire I decided to practice. I took sooooo many shots and this was the best I could get. Room for improvement but at least you can see what it is!

I unexpectedly found myself with a free 90 minutes at Titchwell yesterday. As has been the case a lot in this dire spring the weather was grey, overcast, dull and cold.
Standing on the West Bank path I indulged in my annual attempt to try and get a passable picture of a Swift in flight.
My technique is to crank up the ISO setting to get a fast shutter speed, over expose, manual focus is probably better than aoutfocus with the 5D MK2, pick up the birds as they come towards you so that you can focus with them as they get closer and then fill up your memory card.
I think that I got some ok shots given the low light, but still not clinched a real professional properly exposed pin sharp image.
As ever I'd be interested in your feedback on these images and which if any work for you.

Local supporters of Swift Conservation www.swift-conservation.org/ worked with the local council to produce these leaflets which we tried to distribute to residents around the city in buildings where the birds nest.
The leaflets were produced on good quality stiff coated paper and had a Welsh version on the reverse.
We also produced a leaflet for House Martins, see www.flickr.com/photos/paul_seligman_cardiff/14871464316/
Perhaps you could do something similar in your area?
