The digital landscapes in "Surface.Tension." series are attempts to explore conventions of representation. Specifically, they deal with the idea of "sublime" and its relation to the landscape, which quickly developed into a formalized way of composing a canvas and a formalized way of reading a composition. The overwhelming amount of data flowing through various digital networks (pointed to in this context by commercial advertisements) constitutes a new type of "sublime" experience. It is a dimension that is entirely human-made and it is pushing against a shell of any metaphor that we try encapsulate it in.

Assignment:
One of the tougher lighting challenges in photography is dealing with shiny metallic surfaces. The reflective properties of polished metal can play tricks with exposure and make for challenging compositions. There should be many items around the house to use for subjects (cutlery, chromed items, jewelry, etc.). This assignment is based on a chapter in an often-recommended book titled Light-Science & Magic: An Introduction to Photographic Lighting.
WIT: I found this assignment to be a challenge. Took about 40 shots using various settings. Used white foam cork board as well as several white poster boards to surround the grater in order to keep colors from being reflected in the grater. The dark area at the top of the grater may be a reflection of the camera, but I am not sure. Could not eliminate it. Used two clamp lights with reflectors for the lighting. So, I am submitting this image - against my better judgment - as I'm not sure it was successful. Not sure whether the goal was to avoid a bright reflection coming off the object??

This photograph was taken during a photography trip to Guadalupe Island in Mexico. Guadalupe Island is a white shark hot spot and in my opinion the number 1 location for observing/ photographing great white shark behavior. The gin like water is so clear that it allowed me to experiment with photographing underwater using only natural light. These photos were taken using a combination of surface and submersible cages that were lowered to 10 meters.

The puzzling, fascinating surface of Jupiter’s icy moon Europa looms large in this newly-reprocessed color view, made from images taken by NASA's Galileo spacecraft in the late 1990s. This is the color view of Europa from Galileo that shows the largest portion of the moon's surface at the highest resolution. The view was previously released as a mosaic with lower resolution and strongly enhanced color (see PIA02590). To create this new version, the images were assembled into a realistic color view of the surface that approximates how Europa would appear to the human eye. The scene shows the stunning diversity of Europa’s surface geology. Long, linear cracks and ridges crisscross the surface, interrupted by regions of disrupted terrain where the surface ice crust has been broken up and re-frozen into new patterns. Color variations across the surface are associated with differences in geologic feature type and location. For example, areas that appear blue or white contain relatively pure water ice, while reddish and brownish areas include non-ice components in higher concentrations. The polar regions, visible at the left and right of this view, are noticeably bluer than the more equatorial latitudes, which look more white. This color variation is thought to be due to differences in ice grain size in the two locations. Images taken through near-infrared, green and violet filters have been combined to produce this view. The images have been corrected for light scattered outside of the image, to provide a color correction that is calibrated by wavelength. Gaps in the images have been filled with simulated color based on the color of nearby surface areas with similar terrain types. This global color view consists of images acquired by the Galileo Solid-State Imaging (SSI) experiment on the spacecraft's first and fourteenth orbits through the Jupiter system, in 1995 and 1998, respectively. Image scale is 2 miles (1.6 kilometers) per pixel. North on Europa is at right. The Galileo mission was managed by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, for the agency's Science Mission Directorate in Washington. This collection is a cocktail of print and color. Rifali Chandra’s The Spring Summer 2015 Edenfista collection was based on theme of dreamy fable inspired from the Moroccan intricacy and sophistication. The incredible Morocco has Quirky and Fanciful style that evolves throughout the Making and brings joyous visual expressions with its subtle details. This tale has an emotional yet bold style of illustrating its elegance. Sanya Garg’s Ilkbahar was a mirror of spring culture- fresh, bright, romantic and intricate. The glimpse of dull gold and bright hues gives it a sense of charm and elegance. Paneri Gosar’s collection was a reflection of indo western wears and was all about trendy, classy and occasional wear in the colors of white, pinks and gold. Vanica chhabra’s collection was inspired by Delhi culture, trends and ghantaghar. It was a vibrant collection and quite unique in its own way. Govinda Raju’s collection was an inspiration from KAMASUTRA on KHAJURAHOO TEMPLES. Sweta Kedia’s break the rules is a collection inspired by uniforms across all walks of life: school, army, air hostesses, butlers and navy. Uniforms have always provoked a sense of authority, power and style. Rahul Kapoor "Fuelled by fusion" RAHUL KAPOOR ushers you to his new spring sunmer 2015 collection 'REDIFINING ROYALTY '. Neha Yadav’s collection was inspired by modern sensibilities and cosmopoltitan styling to match the interplay of form, surface texturing and cuts, bringing together a cognitive mix of contemporary and conventional ensembles.
