Typically considered a "non-friable" material, many compressed asbestos gaskets (such as this unused Goodyearite gasket) appear to show evidence of exposed asbestos surface-fibers upon closer examination.
Could asbestos dust be released from simple handling of such material?

After seeing Oschene's recent CP, I dug out some of my old curved-surface studies and put them down onto paper, so to speak. I found that colored pencils were the easiest tool for me, as they allow for intensity, area, and direction.
I've thought a lot about how to diagram curved folds etc. a lot... There are some problems with the whole idea of diagramming curvature. The biggest obstacle is representing all the properties of a curved surface:
* Parity, i.e. mountain or valley
* Degree of curvature; this is how quickly the direction of paper changes. This actually makes a big difference in the look of a model, and with more complex surfaces it becomes hard to tell just from the photo.
*Orientation of curvature-- paper can curve either into a cone or cylinder; with either, we have a point of focus (a line for the cylinder) that has to be shown to understand the curvature.
Also, when you start dealing with curved folds and surfaces, you get some really weird constructions, like single-point folds at the intersection of cones.
I found that Ben Parker's idea of valley points were necessary-- otherwise, the two constructions on the top are indistinguishable. Valley points are open dots, mountain points are closed dots.
Finally, I threw in a CP of one of my minimal swans for good measure.

When I was mulling this Asian pear tree as its' blossoms were at their peak, I was enamored by this one rain drop that was being held in place by three stamen. I really cool example of surface tension.
