The surface of three cubic acres of money. The "coins" are all cut from milk carton using a hole pinch plier, glued to a wavy surface and finally painted. The money bags are peas covered in painted paper tissue.
The frozen surface of Lake Mývatn reveals patterns of thawing ice and volcanic terrain in the background. This captivating scene highlights Iceland’s unique geological beauty and the delicate interplay between ice, water, and earth.

All surfaces in the three apses of sanctuary were originally covered with paint, including niches, column shafts, capitals, gables, cornices, and interspersed sections of wall. The non-figural architectural polychrom painting of the walls is earlier in date than the major figural compositions of the apses. Non-figural paintings on the walls of the sanctuary date between circa 525 and 800 AD.

They float upon the surface of the darkness in which I'm drowning. - Anne Rice
Ok, I guess I'm not quite done with the glass door. Sue me. I think I'm just spent right now. Just totally mentally and physically spent. I need to use tomorrow to just check out of the real world for a day and do nothing but relax. I need to regain my bearings.

A property of liquids arising from unbalanced molecular cohesive forces at or near the surface, as a result of which the surface tends to contract and has properties resembling those of a stretched elastic membrane.
I started out this year with certain intentions. I was quitting my day job to give art a go full time. I had gotten a website going and created a blog. I set up an Etsy shop to sell prints, and I applied for 2 major grants. Then the world stood still. Not really, but my good intentions went down that notorious road to hell. I continued to make art, but completely ignored the website, blog and print shop, which has no prints in it. I have been active here, which is something, but what the hell happened? I'll tell you. After several months of tormenting myself with existential angst, the simple truth; is I got scared. I mean the hard questions about purpose and meaning are still there, but selling a few prints will hardly interfere with that. I have to admit that I just got nervous about the details. What if the prints don't look good? What if I can't keep up? What if I spend more money than I make? What if...... You get the idea. So I'm here to say, while I can't tell you what the meaning of life is, I am ready to get out of my own way. Again. So while last weeks portrait, about going into the dark had a different intent then, it is still most pertinent. Faith is what I need to trust that I can. I can ponder the deep stuff, with one foot in progress! I can do so much more than I allow, and so can most of you!

A large mass of springtails has found itself trapped in the middle of a water bowl. Surface tension has pulled them together and holds them there. On the outskirts more members of their clan unwittingly drift toward the center, like microscopic satellites being pulled toward a black hole.

This week was a cloudy one on an otherwise sunny island. Ideal weather to go colorless again (not that I need an excuse to). All my shooting this week revolved around the ethereal look of long daytime exposures and the ocean.
Another shot of a mooring dolphin, this one in the waters of Caracasbaai on Curacao's south coast.

Doug Idle's Surface Crawler at the Great Western Lego Show 2008. I really liked his use of the old-style caterpillar tracks.
I made an unusual (to me) discovery the other day. I came to a tennis court that was surfaced with some kind of composite, honeycombed tiles. I imagine they're easier on ankles and knees, and the rain simply drains through so there's no waiting for the court to dry after it rains.
Anyway, there are a lot of big maples around, and the court was studded with whirlybird seeds stuck upright in the tiles' holes, which I thought was crazy.
This is the first place I remember seeing the diverging lines in the bokeh.
From my contact .barbel's photostream.
I love the effect, was surprised at the way they overlapped. It did require strong post-processing to get the overlaps to show clearly.
