They are bright! 12mm yellow jade stone, the color for our Support Our Troops, and petit, faceted citrine. Artisan ss bead caps. Artisan made sterling silver charms, awarness ribbon and "have faith"/cross. I also added some other stones in support of lupus, purple, leukemia, orange and pink for breast cancer. Charms attached to fused fine silver rings made by me.

"Support President Bush & Our Troops"
Does this sign contain an oxymoron? Is it possible to support President Bush and the Troops at the same time?
I suppose it depends on what kind of support is in question. I support giving George W. Bush - hugs. Because I can imagine that his life and his mind are dominated by fear. I think the best way to support George W. Bush is by giving him hugs.
Of course, I think he belongs in jail, until such a time that he can be put on trial for alleged war crimes. But I don't think his incarceration should stop people from giving him well meaning hugs and honest to goodness compassion.
I can imagine his reality is a scary and disturbing one. He is certainly in need of support.
So this fellow is protesting. He is protesting peace. He protests a weekly peace vigil that takes place at Percival Landing in Olympia Washington. The vigil is in response to US activities in Iraq. It has been ongoing since 1998. It's a great way to rally for the cause of peace. But lately, counter-protesters have started attending. I feel a mix of emotions regarding them. Sometimes I feel sadness. Sometimes anger. Sometimes pity. Mostly now, it is sadness and pity. It is interesting to watch them, because their body language is highly revealing. Could these guys use some well-meaning hugs and genuine human companionship? Probably. Maybe that's why they like George Bush's presidency so much. They're like ducks in a row. Line them up so I can hug them all in one fell swoop.
Oh yeah. Let me tell you about this great movie I saw. It's called No End in Sight.

Artist's Statement:
I stole these yellow ribbon magnets from the backs of vehicles in parking lots across Phoenix, AZ, where they are plentiful. I found an unsurprising correlation between the size of the vehicle and the number of ribbons on the bumper. While I believe theft is wrong, I believe the advocation of state-sanctioned violence is much worse. After scanning these magnets, many of them very decayed, I destroy them.
Some may say that supporting the troops is not the same as supporting war. This is very wrongful thinking to me. I have met many soldiers in my lifetime and they are generally decent people, but there is not a draft in America. The War on Terror is not a war of self-defense, but of aggression, nationalism and fear. Therefore, it is a choice to go overseas and demolish men, women, children, houses, farms, entire cities even. I believe supporting the troops is a very evil idea, even if their job is not enviable, even if their murderous rampages does not always make them terrible people at home. It is so strange and dark how ripping children apart with machine guns does not entirely disable one to love their own children.
That leads me to my next point: Why these ribbons are magnetic. They are purposefully easy to remove so that if public opinion were to suddenly and overwhelmingly change, the drivers of gas-guzzling SUVs could avoid scrutiny. Otherwise, why don't the majority of magnet consumers opt for adhesive?
All I am doing is taking the initiative. For every ribbon I remove, that is one less bigoted, hateful, war-mongering driver you will see in traffic. Perhaps, if you see one of these magnets yourself, you would do the rest of the world a favor and remove it.

I've actually seen these around quite a bit, but they're usually so faded that they don't merit being photographed. Really, this is taking the fad to a new extreme. I guess my main question is: "WHY?" Why did the creators feel the need to cut the photograph out into the shape of a thing that resembles a ribbon?

No ordinary race. The 10th anniversary Canada Army Run will took place September 17, 2017 on the streets of Ottawa and Gatineau. Canada Army Run, presented by BMO Bank of Montreal, is a unique running event in which Canadians run, walk or roll side-by-side with members of the Canadian Armed Forces in 5K, 10K, half marathon, Vimy Challenge (5K+10K) and Commander's Challenge (5K + half marathon) events. Proceeds and fundraising efforts from Canada Army Run support Soldier On and the Support our Troops fund. www.armyrun.ca
