I was vacuuming the rug in Evan's room, and he climbed into the chair, as he usually does. This time, I put extra stuffed animals in the chair with him—probably because they were in the way on the floor. He stayed like this the whole time I had the vacuum out.
The top UN envoy in South Sudan, Nicholas Haysom, held his first press conference at the UNMISS headquarters earlier today. SRSG Haysom focused on the need to prevent subnational violence that is still flaring up in particular places across the world’s youngest country and the mission’s ongoing support to the South Sudanese government as it starts drafting a permanent constitution which is expected to pave the way for elections in the next couple of years. LEBANON, Pa.-About 25 Soldiers from the 828th Finance Management Support Detachment, 28th Finance Management Support Unit, 213th Regional Support Group, Pennsylvania Army National Guard were honored in a deployment ceremony at the Lebanon Readiness Center on May 16. The 2012 Sea Picnic was again run at Ansty's Cove. It featured amazing food from Antonia's Kitchen with fish from Ian Perks. The highlight of the event, which raised thousands for the Trinity Sailing Trust through tickets and a charity auction, was a JB 007 style sea and air spectacular involving Sunseeker Yachts, jet skis RIBs and an R44 helicopter dropping bombs on them!
The Marines of Marine Wing Support Squadron 273 participate in a squadron-wide field meet aboard Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, Oct. 10. The field meet consisted of various events including humvee pull, 7-ton pull, relay race, obstacle course relay, tug-of-war and a pull up competition. Marine Wing Support Squadron 273 provides all essential aviation ground support to a designated fixed-wing component of a Marine Aviation Combat Element (ACE), and all supporting or attached elements of the Marine Air Control Group (MACG). This support includes: internal airfield communications, weather services, expeditionary airfield services, aircraft rescue and firefighting, aircraft and ground refueling, essential engineering services, motor transport, messing, chemical defense, security and law enforcement, airbase commandant functions, and explosive ordinance disposal.

Screw Pickets were used as supports for Barbed Wire Defences and were introduced in 1915 as a replacement for timber posts. The French name for this type of steel stake was ''Queue de Cochon'' or pigtail, the World War One steel stake became known in the British Army as a ''Corkscrew Picket'' which was made from a steel bar which had its bottom end bent into a spiral coil, it had three (or sometimes four) loops or eyes, one at the top, one at midway and one just above the corkscrew spiral, the final product could be up to 8ft long.
Groups of soldiers known as ''Wiring Parties'' went out at night into no man's land to position these supports, they later strung the Barbed Wire through the loops to form a Defensive Wire Obstacle as a protection for their trench line. The British called this type of stake a Corkscrew Picket because it was screwed into the ground rather than hammered in as the timber posts had been (the hammering made a loud noise, usually attracting enemy fire !) The Screw Pickets replaced the timber posts (although Screw Pickets were less rigid than timber posts) but they could be installed rapidly and silently. The Screw Picket was screwed into the ground by turning it in a clockwise direction using an entrenching tool's handle or a stick inserted in the bottom eye of the picket for leverage, the bottom eye was used in order to avoid bending the vertical bar of the the Corkscrew Picket. A wiring party is described in detail in the World War One novel ''All Quiet on the Western Front'' by contemporary author Erich Maria Remarque.

My second time with this beer. The first time I loved it, the second time I think my taste has moved on a little. I still enjoyed it and want to try more of their beers. I think they deserve greater distribution - bought from Purvis cellars in canterbury

THE BLEEDERS.
Those pesky little Bleeders thought they could come down from Glasgow to entertain the Paisley fans as they supported the punk legend and ex Sex Pistols original bass player Glen Matlock. Well they did and they looked like they had a great time too boot…..
Jackson Harvey and Daniel McGuiga’s guitar and drum band went on stage just after 8pm dressed in bark capes with bleeding black and red eye makeup after Drummer Daniel told me their style of music was a mix of punk and country. Both members joked with themselves and the fans in between songs while Daniels guitar went throw a bass and guitar amp resulting in the lower strings sounding like a bass as he played single notes. And for a two peace band they had a full lively sound while mixing in samples from kids yelling to segments of music that had the crowds well entertained.
At one point in the show Jack ran off stage in the middle of one of their songs and straight into the toilet while still playing his guitar that had the audience laughing. Only for Daniel to say on his return, “I hope you washed your hands” that brought further laughter from the crowds. Drummer Daniel later told me Jack got a new wireless radio jack plug for his guitar and it was all spontaneous and good banter with the fans.
This once four piece band exited stage left around 8.40pm and in no way were intimidated by the fans or what was still to come and why everyone was at the Bungalow bar as they left with a smile on their faces and chuffed to have supported on of punks greats bands members…
A cracking night folks and all good fun and why people need to get out their and support their local venues and live music..
