Okay, so you call yourself a patriot. But what exactly do you think that word means?
Is it the patriotism that says, “My country, right or wrong?” Is it the patriotism that says, Might makes right? Is it the patriotism of Samuel Johnson who defined it as “the last refuge of the scoundrel?”
Is it the patriotism of the 16th century Protestant “reformers” who believed that every leader of any “Christian” nation was ordained by God, no matter how much that leader promoted the satanic mass slaughter of fellow children of God, and, therefore, Christians were to be unconditionally obedient to that leader? (See Psalm 137.)
Or are you the type of patriot that loves your country so much that you won’t let tyrants or the super-rich or the mega-corporations take it over out of their greed for more power and wealth? Are you the type of patriot that is willing to have a lover’s quarrel with your beloved country that may be temporarily under the control of those that are close to being indicted as international war criminals?
In order to find out which type of patriot you might be, you should read the following “hypothetical” situation; and then you can judge for yourself.
Suppose you are a white, God-fearing, church-going citizen in a country that prided itself on its inventiveness, its literacy, its art, its culture, its glory in past wars and its superpower status, and suppose you saw your democratic institutions and the human rights of your neighbors being degraded by the lawmakers of your nation.
Say that you saw a bunch of powerful legislators and corporations, who lied consistently to enrich themselves and who were obsessed with the desire to wage aggressive war. Say that they started to grab control of our country’s legislature, judiciary and military. Say these cunning politicians, with the support of ruthless financiers, gained control of the highest office in the land -- without winning the majority vote in any fair election -- and started taking away, in rapid succession, the rights of many of its minority citizens, declaring left-wing peacemakers traitors, purging anti-fascists and other resistance groups from their positions of power, eviscerating its democratic institutions, silencing the “liberal” sectors of the press, working to weaken and eventually violently destroy all political opposition, censoring or usurping the open-minded media and marginalizing and silencing the artists, the poets, the writers and the creative thinkers.
You would be in 1930s Germany and the tyrants would have been Adolf Hitler’s cunning henchmen. And what would you have done in that situation?
If you were an average white, affluent, employed citizen, with all the privilege and power granted to you by that majority status, you would have said virtually nothing in opposition, even as the rights of the Nazis targeted minority groups were legally being taken away, disappearing into the gulag of prison and mental institutions.
As an average Bible-believing Christian, you would probably have obeyed your German war-supporting bishops or pastors, almost all of whom had pledged a solemn oath of loyalty to the Fuhrer, duty-bound to follow him instead of their “Lord and Savior,” the nonviolent Jesus of Nazareth. Because of an out-of-context single passage in the Epistle to the Romans you, as an obedient German Christian would have been inclined to obey St. Paul and therefore the existing rulers in Berlin in the time of crisis rather than courageously and faithfully following Jesus, who forbade homicidal violence, said that all are equal in the eyes of God and that the followers should love -- instead of kill -- their enemies.
If you were an average white lawyer, physician or psychiatrist, you would have joined the Nazi Party, for doing otherwise would have jeopardized your practice. And you would have kept your mouth shut when witnessing the anguish of your Jewish, Slavic, Gypsy, socialist, liberal, or gay clients as they were forced to march toward -- and disappear into -- the concentrations camps and gas chambers.
But the question remains -- would you have been a good patriot? Or would you have been on the wrong side of justice by being obedient to the Fuhrer (“Leader”) and to the cloth flag (swastika) that symbolized his rule?
Knowing that any German citizen seen helping the “enemies of the state” was guilty of treason, on whose side would any of us have stood? Would we have taken the side of the innocents -- those oppressed or outcast -- or would we have stood with the fascists?
Knowing that revering the flag was regarded as a crucial act of patriotism would we have saluted along with the victimizers or would we have resisted?
On whose side would we have been, the freedom-fighting groups (labeled “terrorists” by the State) who were courageously and patriotically trying to save their beloved nation from fascism, or would we have been on the “safe” side with the militarists and corporatists and right-wing politicians who looked like they were going to be the winners? Our answer will reveal our politics -- and our theology.
Now fast forward to America 2006 . . . but that shouldn’t be necessary, for the point has been made.
Dr. Kohls is a Duluth, Minn., physician and a peace and justice activist who has an aversion to human slaughter, for any reason, in times of war or in times of “peace.” He is also a member of the faith-based peace organization, Every Church A Peace Church.

Affecting of superpowers when stressed: When stressed, Ema will slow, even stop, time. The time this lasts varies, depending on the level of stress Ema is experiencing and how long it takes her to calm down.
Nationality: Canadian
Description: Ema is tall, taller than most of her age. She has dirty-blond hair, with streaks of neon blue dyed into it. Slim, yet strong, build. Forest green eyes. Ema usually wears a black hoodie,
customized and spray-painted with her squad’s tag, matching the died streaks of her hair.
Background: Ema’s past was a stressful one. Her father abandoned her and her mother the instant he discovered her mother was pregnant. She lived with her mother for several years, though she quickly proved herself not physically able to take care of Ema. The social services came for Ema soon, taking her to her local orphanage. Being naturally tall, she quickly took to playing basketball, making many a friend during her time in the team, bonding particularly with those who had experienced something similar to her past. Once, during a stressful game, an opponent was jumping, the ball cupped in her hand, flying towards the hoop. And then, time stopped, well, slowed, time could never stop, nor could it go backwards. The game was won because of this. Years later, Ema found herself working in a gang, as a hacker. She had always been fascinated with technology, and being able to slow time allowed her to truly focus on this craft, even in the most stressful of times.

Character Creation
The most well-known Cobra is Klaus Voorhees, now known as the King Cobra. He first appeared in Journey into Mystery #98 (Nov. 1963) created by writer Stan Lee and artist Don Heck.
Klaus Voorhees was a laboratory assistant, working with a professor trying to find a cure for various venomous snake bites. A combination of a bite from a radioactive cobra and the experimental anti-venom granted him superpowers, which led to him becoming the supervillain briefly known as the Human Cobra and then as the Cobra. The Cobra and Mister Hyde formed a criminal team for years, fighting various heroes such as Thor and Daredevil.
He later became a member of the Serpent Squad and a member of Sidewinder's Serpent Society. During a takeover attempt by the Viper, the Cobra actually opposed her rule and sided with Captain America to depose the Viper and foil her plans. The Cobra later took the name "the King Cobra" as he assumed leadership of the Serpent Society. When the Serpent Society became Serpent Solutions under the leadership of the Viper (Jordan Stryke, a different Viper) the King Cobra became a member of the group.
His nephew, Piet Voorhees, became the second Cobra and first appeared in White Tiger #1 (Jan. 2007) in a story written by Tamora Pierce and drawn by Timothy Liebe. Piet Voorhees was injected with the same chemicals that gave his uncle his powers and he became the second Cobra, working as a mercenary. On one mission he encountered the White Tiger, who defeated him. The Cobra later joined the Serpent Squad, organized by Sin and would also work for HYDRA as a mercenary.
Marvel has also used the moniker "Cobra" for two World War II Nazi villains and also a mercenary enemy of Moon Knight.
The original Cobra has appeared outside of Marvel Comics, most notably in "The Mighty Thor" portion of The Marvel Super Heroes as well as in episodes of The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers.
Klaus Voorhees was briefly known as the Human Cobra, then was known as the Cobra for many years and is currently known as the King Cobra. The Klaus Voorhees version of the Cobra was most commonly associated with Thor, Daredevil and, to a lesser extent, Captain America and Spider-Man. The character was created by Stan Lee and Don Heck in Journey into Mystery #98 (Nov. 1963) in which he first battled Thor. His next appearance (Journey into Mystery #105–106 (June–July 1964)) saw him team up with Mister Hyde for the first time (with Hyde being the brains of the team) and the duo had a few more encounters with Thor before their first battle with Daredevil in Daredevil #30–32 (July–Sept. 1967).
Fictional character biography
Career Criminal
Soon after deciding to start a criminal career, he was stopped by Thor. He then forged an alliance with Mr. Hyde, that continued for a very long time. They faced enemies like Daredevil and Spider-Man. Cobra also joined the Serpent Squad, they helped an Atlantean warlord known as Krang, but Cobra felt out of his element. Soon he again teamed with Mr. Hyde, but this time the partnership didn't last long. Cobra left Hyde behind when escaping Rikers Island. Later, Hyde was hunting him and he feared for his life, with the help of Spider-Man he was able to escape Hyde's wrath.
Serpent Society
King Cobra again teamed with others like him, this time it was called the Serpent Society. After several betrayals, Cobra was left the leader of this group. Now feeling like a new man, he decided to face his greatest fear, Mr. Hyde. He fought him face-to-face. After defeating him, he renamed himself King Cobra. He tried to get some order into this group, but it backfired and the group fell apart. King Cobra soon was arrested, and sent to the Vault. When the breakout happened he was among the escapees. A new hero Toxin tracked him down with the help of Mr. Hyde.
Civil War and Thunderbolts
When the Superhuman Registration Act went through, King Cobra joined the Thunderbolts.
The Savage Six
Cobra was captured by Taskmaster and Black Ant for a big trophy hunt set up by Kraven the Hunter. Kraven chose villains that were animal themed to punish them for disgracing the animal kingdom. King Cobra was one of six main animal villains that Kraven used to sell rich patrons on the hunt. Arcade, Kraven's partner, referred to them as The Savage Six.
Once freed after Spider-Man's interfering with Kraven's plan, Vulture liked the sound of the Savage Six and pitched to his other advertised big game baddies (Rhino, Scorpion, Tarantula, and Stegron) that they should stick together. Once together, they made their way to Hollywood to shut down a production of a biographical movie produced by Mysterio that painted them in a less than ideal life. Mary Jane was on set and confronted them to no avail. Luckily, Screwball, Master Matrix, and other supervillains getting a second chance as crew members were there to rescue her.
Sinister War
The team gets a second chance to ruin Mysterio's movie by attacking the premiere. Unfortunately, because Mary Jane is starring in it, she was in attendance, with Spider-Man as her plus one. He leapt into action, but his attempt was short lived. The new Sinister Six showed up to recruit Mysterio and did battle with the Savage Six.
They regroup with other supervillain teams at a graveyard where Spider-Man was hiding. Kindred let them know they were all hellbound and gave them all the same offer, the villain that kills Spider-Man will get a free pass in Hell. Eventually, Doc Ock uses a piece of Black Ant's helmet to knock everyone, including the Savage Six, out through the ear centipedes Kindred was using to control them.
Roxxon
King Cobra was hired by a resurrected Dario Agger to join a team of Thor's old foes to stand ready in case the god return to Midgard. Thor had been framed for Agger's own murder and been manipulated with "skald magic" (storytelling incantations). When Thor arrived to clear his name, he was attacked by these foes. They were able to get the jump on him, and Grey Gargoyle managed to turn him into stone, which Mister Hyde proceeded to destroy.
Thor recently upgraded his power with a new belt, materialized from the power of Zeus, which fought back against Grey Gargoyle's stone touch. Cobra and the others were scared by Thor's feat and retreated to Agger's side. He used them as bait once more, however, this time Thor brought reinforcements. Cobra filled the battlefield with his cobra gas, but Sif managed to knock him out.
When the dust settled, the foes were arrested and moved to a private prison owned by Roxxon.
Powers and Abilities
The Cobra possesses certain unusual physical powers derived from his mutagenically altered physiology which among other things help him simulate the movement of a snake. All of the bones in his body, including his skull, are malleable and his muscle tissue is exceedingly resilient, making his body very flexible and pliant. It is nearly impossible for him to break a bone or tear a muscle. Hence, the Cobra can survive impacts that would kill or inflict major injury upon a normal human being with little or no injury to himself.
The Cobra's flexibility enables him to slither into and out of very tight and small places. Through compressing his body, the Cobra can fit into any hole or slot down to four inches in diameter. By using his flexibility to wrap himself about a victim's body and then exerting his full strength, the Cobra traps that victim within his "Cobra Grip." No normal human being can break free of his grip unless he is extraordinarily well trained in fighting, and even many superhumanly strong beings would have difficulty freeing themselves.
Strength: able to lift own body weight, speed peak range - 700 MPH, Enhanced Durability. Short range energy projection, short duration, single energy type.

I have superpowers! They are to do with the wind, and nothing to do with lentils.
I can forecast the Spring weather. I can predict when the next gale will arrive. I can't actually raise a gale. But I can turn dead calm air into a fluky zephyr. Honestly, the business of siting a windfarm would be made so much easier by asking me. My fees aren't that high!
This is how it works. When the Mariposa plum flower buds swell I know, with high certainty, that the next wind will blow them, and the bees, off course for a good crop.
Here's how I disturb the calm: pick up a macro lens and head out into still air — unfailing!
That's why this scene might have been a bit sharper, a bit deeper in focus, a bit tidier; less ragged.
The gale arrived on cue, blowing out those petals. The shutter speed would have been lower, the focus sharper and the AI Servo AF mode switched off instead of hunting like mad to stay with the action.
Anyway, here it is, part 1 of a little do nothing project to record what's in flower. I missed the tiny and beautiful hazel flowers on the day it rained and the wind had already wiped out the Santa Rosa plum's flowers by the time I got here. I won't get everything: rosemary, forget-me-not, grape hyacith, daffodil and jonquil, dandelion, Pseudofumaria alba, the little alpine strawberries…there's almost always something for the birds, bugs and bees.
I braved the winds mid afternoon and went to Sodus Point. On the way home, I had to take a detour in order to get home. I was told that there were roadblocks 3-4 spots between Ontario and Webster along Lake Road. Once our power returns here at home, I need to take the shop vacuum and clean all the sand off the dash of my Equinox!! (hopefully, I pulled my camera in quick enough to keep it from getting "contaminated" by the sand).
We are without internet and power - our neighbor's metal storage building was uprooted by the wind and pulled down the wires out back. MANY people in the Rochester, NY area are without power. We lost ours just a couple hours after I took this image. I will try to get back on as soon as I can. I heard a couple people say that they were told it would be a week before power is back on. We will see....
We are doing ok - our portable generator is keeping us going at this time. My daughter's internet lets me do a quick check of my messages/emails when I bring my computer here.

Superpowers: Teleporting
Affecting of superpowers when stressed: Will warp from place to place when under extreme pressure. This can be extremely dangerous, as it is possible to warp to a place in the air, without solid ground beneath him. Though this is fairly rare, only occurring in times when he is stressed extremely.
Nationality: Canadian
Description: Marly is tall for his age, with dark brown, almost black hair. His style of clothing, is… lacking, to say the least. His entire wardrobe usually consists of hoodies and jeans if varying colours. He has a very slim build, making him look nearly starved. His face might be considered good looking, for some, though for many it’s simply average. His eye’s are ice blue, near white.
Background: Marly’s childhood was a fairly average one. He lives in a lower middle-class family of four, the other members begin his father, his mother, and his younger sister. Being from the lower class, Marly had trouble with bullies all his life. Due to this, Marly was forced to learn parkour, training to be able to leap from building to building, leaving his perusers in the dust.
Once, during a parkour training session, he found himself able to teleport, seemingly randomly. Being curious by nature, Marly experimenting with his newfound power, keeping this from his family the entire time. This all shattered when, during an extremely stressful encounter with his school’s local bullies, he found himself warping to another location. This information found it’s way to his parents, his father was confused, but his mother seemed to understand. She would later reveal to have powers similar to his own. She then worked to train him in using these powers.
Fourth wall: So, I've finally gotten my entry up! Literally hours before the deadline (1 hour 36 minutes to be exact.) As you may have noticed, I tried to make this superhero world a more grounded one, inspired by a podcast called The Bright Sessions, which deals with a similar subject matter. Also, fun fact, I actually own much of the clothes on this fig, so I could dress up as him with a few small purchases. Anyway, hope you all enjoyed and good luck to all the other contenders and a big thanks to Fantxtik for organizing this awesome contest.

This was the only occasion I enjoyed double headed Peak haulage. Both being under power, the noise hanging out the window through the cutting at Sutton Bonnington was magnificent

Wärst Du an diesem ersten heissen Tag Ende Mai 1993 nicht auch gerne im vordersten EW mitgefahren, das Fenster komplett geöffnet, um dem herrlichen Motorensound der Total 12 Re 6/6 Motoren beim Anfahren mit einem schweren Intercity Richtung Gotthard zu lauschen? An diesem Tag war dieser Intercity 17 Wagen lang, und ich erinnerte mich noch daran wie wenn es gestern gewesen wäre, denn ich musste dem Kondukteur Platz machen, da er die Stellung des Ausfahrsignals dem Lokführer melden musste, denn die vordere Lok ragte über das Signal hinaus. Das waren noch Zeiten (Zürich HB, Mai 1993)!

I suppose now that I'm 30 I shall have to put away childish things and bollocks to that. I wont be getting rid of my Bananaman and Dangermous dvds or trading in the Spider-man comics for something more high brow head scratching oh no no no. I shall eat sweeties while watching the Hulk and trying to work out just how far from a nuclear explosion I'd have to stand to get me those superpowers :oD

The sky ignites in fiery red and white brilliance, as if its vivid colors were lifted straight from a comic book, casting a golden glow over tranquil waters.
A lone bird and a distant plane make a cameo in this blockbuster moment. No CGI, no filters—just reality at its finest, a breathtaking display of nature’s own cinematic universe.
A moment later, like an unexpected bogey, a second bird swoops into the scene, simulating aerial dogfight maneuvers. Meanwhile, my bold yet disciplined German Shepherd dog K2 remains grounded at my feet, calmly observing the spectacle above.
When I posted the original video I had managed to take a few screenshots during, I added the Danger Zone song from the Top Gun movie soundtrack. By pure coincidence the shaking of the camera from my trying to zoom in and out added the same kind of urgency as in the opening sequence of the movies Top Gun and later of Maverick as well. I will share a link in the comments as I am sure you will love it.

Ted Kord is the second hero to call himself Blue Beetle. He is the successor to Dan Garrett and the predecessor to Jaime Reyes.
Garrett was Ted's mentor and he vowed to take up the crime-fighting legacy. When he found himself unable to activate the Blue Beetle Scarab he turned to science and martial arts instead.
Ted is a scientific and engineering genius. He puts his inventions to public use through Kord Enterprises. He has been a member of Justice League International, the Living Assault Weapons and the Birds of Prey.
His most enduring partnership is with his best friend Booster Gold.
Ted Kord has no superpowers; he possesses a genius-level intellect, with an IQ of 192.
He iss proficient in numerous sciences such as chemistry, physics, engineering, aircraft, and solar tech, as well as an understanding of alien tech.
Despero once claimed that Ted's mind was second only to that of J'onn J'onzz. Former Justice League teammate Guy Gardner claims that Ted was smarter than Batman, "although nobody ever noticed".
Kord is an Olympic-level acrobat and skilled hand-to-hand combatant, having studied in the martial arts of karate and aikido. Dick Grayson stated that Ted was very adept physically, to the point where he was almost ambidextrous. He is also highly skilled in espionage.
Kord is best known for the crime fighting equipment he has invented. He created numerous gadgets, including suction pads, sight-enhancing lenses, and a protective costume.
To prevent being forcibly unmasked, especially if rendered unconscious, Kord's cowl had a lock mechanism that only opened when he touched the mask under his jaw with a chip in his glove, which would at least force an enemy to perform the more troublesome task of cutting through the material to unmask him.
He also created a power armor suit for his friend Booster Gold. The suit contained a fully functioning artificial arm and also provided life-support for Booster as he recovered from potentially fatal injuries. He later converted a suit of alien power armor for Booster to use.
His BB gun was a handheld weapon that could blind villains with a flash of light, or knock them back with a compressed air blast capable of felling a charging rhino.
The original BB gun was designed with a security feature so that it would function only when the Blue Beetle held it, becoming inactive without contact with special circuitry in the Beetle costume's gloves. The BB gun is solar powered.
Blue Beetle's airship, the "Bug", contains high tech equipment, can electrify or magnetize its hull, fire electrical energy, and fly at 600 mph. All models had booster jets hidden under the shell of the Bug. The boosters on the first two models could speed the Bug up to the speed of sound for a short period of time; no time limit was ever given for how long the burst lasted.
Later models of the boosters were used for intercontinental travel at supersonic speed. It was also 90% solar powered. Later models also had energy weapons of various types, from lasers to plasma. The last two models were capable of reaching orbit and all models could operate underwater. No depth was ever given that they could go to, but one model Bug was seen operating on the sea floor after going through an underwater volcano.
All models were remotely controllable from controls built into Kord's gloves.
He also built flight pads similar to Mister Miracle's flight discs used throughout the entire Extreme Justice run and claimed to Barbara Gordon that he could keep the Birds of Prey jet flying 24-7 with technology based on the Darkseid's Mother Boxes.

Class 50 superpower on the South Devon coast, as 50016 -'Barham' and 50006 -'Neptune' were blasting their way through Starcross with the 16.21 Plymouth to Bristol Temple Meads service on May 25th 1987. Both 50's have passed into history, 50016 was withdrawn in August 1990 and scrapped in 1992, whilst 50006 was taken out of service in July 1987 with main generator failure, and scrapped in 1988.
