Sunset over Fawley.
The layers of cloud from the horizon upwards was really fascinating as the sun broke through from time to time.
The sun is setting over the Fawley Power Station in more ways than one. It was designed and built to provide power to over a million homes but it cannot meet current emission standards, so it was shut down.
The owners have plans to redevelop the site with new homes and shops and even a restaurant on top of the Power Station chimney.
The chimney, at over 650 ft, is 100 ft taller than the Spinnaker Tower, so the views would be spectacular.
If it is demolished, I will miss it from dominating the horizon around Southampton waters.
I had a tuff time taking this shot as I was trying to keep some power lines from entering the frame. I had to setup my tripod on a rock in the pond and stand on another. I can still hear the frogs croak when I look at this picture.
Taken with a Nikkormat FTN 50mmF2 on Kodachrome.
Daily Dog Challenge: It's off to ...Cahill's Lookout for the sunset we go
Megalong Valley, Katoomba, Blue Mountains
By a route obscure and lonely,
Haunted by ill angels only,
Where an Eidolon, named Night,
On a black throne reigns upright,
I have reached these lands but newly
From an ultimate dim Thule —
From a wild weird clime, that lieth, sublime,
Out of Space — out of Time.

So last nights sunset in Otterbourne started me thinking ‘was this what it looked like in the blitz when you looked towards Southampton. A very apocalyptic sunset to end a lovely afternoon wondering along a very short stretch of the beautiful river Itchen
Sunset casts its reddish glow on the shores of Half Moon Bay in northern California where this surfboarder has just completed his last wave of the day. "Sunset surfers", as they are sometimes called, are those whose daily jobs keep them away from the beach during the day. But, as soon as the quitting bell rings, they pack their boards into their cars and are off to catch a few evening waves. In the evening, when the crowds thin out, floating out on the water is relaxing and can soothe away the stresses and hassles of the day.
Playing with new camera. Note the sheet of rain on left.
