Blue hour reflections across Canning Dock on the Liverpool Waterfront. Lovely still conditions and a pleasant enough sunset sky make for nice shots.

The Global Affairs Annex stands sentinel at the mouth of the Rideau River, bathed in the golden hush of a summer sunset, circa 2012. Its modern lines and open-frame sculpture rise against a sky of molten gold and deepening blue—where diplomacy meets dusk. Flags ripple gently, water reflects the architecture’s quiet strength, and the moment holds the stillness of purpose before the world stirs again.

A bit of a minimalist composition here as all I had to work with was the sea and sky .

On this evening I went to Princess Point in Hamilton Ontario in hopes of getting a good sunset. Nothing was happening in the sky. So, I decided to put on a telephoto lens in hopes of getting a closer scene of the swans. I was new to switching out lenses so I was a bit slow at it. When I stood back up and looked out over the water this is what had happened ... in just a few minutes! My wide angle lens went back on. I'm much better at switching lenses now hehe!

Another shot From Monday evening , I really thought the last hours of daylight were going to fizzle out , but it came good in the end , this is one of the first shots I took, loved the reflections I got.

A shot from last Thursday evening along the River Adur at Shoreham in Sussex.

The Volkhov (Russian: Во́лхов) is a river in Novgorodsky and Chudovsky Districts of Novgorod Oblast and Kirishsky and Volkhovsky Districts of Leningrad Oblast in northwestern Russia. It connects Lake Ilmenand Lake Ladoga and belongs to the basin of the Neva River. The length of the river is 224 kilometres (139 mi), and the area of its drainage basin is 80,200 square kilometres (31,000 sq mi). The city of Veliky Novgorod, the towns of Kirishi, Volkhov, and Novaya Ladoga, and a historically important village of Staraya Ladoga are located along the Volkhov

Six Men's Bay, Barbados - January 2025: A fisherman village is illuminated by the warm glow of sunset, as a lone fisherman navigates the tranquil waters. The serene atmosphere highlights the daily life of coastal communities. On the foreground, a local Barbadian man with hat and suit looks serenely at the sea.

The location is a Bajan fisherman village situated on the west coastline of the island, on the Caribbean Sea. “Bajan” is the local term for “Barbadian”.

The ribs of the old Mersey Flat barge "The Beadale" point to the skies like an aircraft defence system, watch out Widnes. The new and old side by side.

Blue hour is one of my favourite times of the day to photograph. Without the harshness of the sun above the horizon the details in the clouds really come to the fore. Throw in some still water reflections and a bit of foreground interest and all the ingredients are there for a creative image. This is the Mersey Gateway Bridge spanning the River Mersey in Runcorn (or Widnes if you are from the darkside). The tips of the remains of the Mersey Flat wreck of the Beadale poke through the high tide river mersey.

Everybody knows where this is. This is a spot with that 'instagram' appeal as i witnessed with some creators doing their model posing in the usual spots complete with drone footage. But i am just the same when confronted with a picture worthy scene.

Was a bit of a wait to get the little sliver of golden light thru the centre as could see that gap in the clouds and the sea where the sun was going to set. Always a sense of anticipation...

Time and tide waits no man..........the beginning of a new year is the end of another year.......Let us all welcome the new year and i wish all my friends, wellwishers a HAPPY NEW YEAR 2008.

Bon Mardi à tous

You will often read about the importance of planning for photography and rightly so as it can make a massive difference to the images you produce. Every now and then it also pays to do the opposite and go out without any preconceptions or care of what images you might come back with or if you come back with any at all, and just go to enjoy the photography. On this occasion, after my first week back in work for what seemed like ages, if I had not gone out I would have probably fallen asleep in the chair, so planning was not an option. Same bridges, same boat wrecks but quite a different feel at high tide. The calm conditions perfect for reflecting what was a pretty nice sky.

Under this magic sky...

So this weekend I thought I'd experiment with some HDR. I know this isn't my "usual" type of image but I had a great time playing with bracketed exposures and my Nik efex trial. I think I'm a believer now! I spent some time on Friday night wandering downtown - we had some rain that day so I was hoping the sunset would be awesome. I wasn't disappointed!

Looks better on black!

HSS all!

As I went down this evening to take my car, I could guess that this was a masterpiece of mother nature, designed to go away with the darkness coming...

"Ah! Petit Prince, j'ai compris peu à peu, ainsi ta petite vie mélancolique. Tu n'avais eu longtemps pour distraction que la douceur des couchers de soleil. J'ai appris ce détail nouveau, le quatrième jour au matin, quand tu m'as dit: J'aime bien les couchers de soleil."

Merci à toi Simone !

Pardon à ceux dont les commentaires ont disparu dans l'aventure...

"I took far too many photos until way past twilight’s last gleaming across the still water. Someone just up river had lit a barbecue – and the smoke drifted atmospherically – almost mysteriously - across the river. Mary thought I was being sentimental and managed to distract me with a bumper glass of wine - the same colour as the transient sky. Soon it was gone."

A lovely looking sky over Littlehampton West Sussex.

Down the water front at Widnes enjoying nice calm waters and sunset colour

Quite often see these birds feeding on the beach at low tide.

Waterhead is a small town in Cumbria. In Waterhead, there is Waterhead Pier and the Marine, providing a nice walk next to Lake Windermere. To take this photo, I set up my tripod on a jetty before the time of the sunset to capture the changing colour of the sky more.

Sunny reflections at the Opera House, Sydney.

This was taken around sunset, it was beautiful with the sunny beams of golden reflections!

With my weather app telling me that there would be high cloud at sunset on the coast a little wander was called for. And the tide was half out so plenty of reflections as well. Nice...

View On Black

As the neighbors get used to me shooting outside, the town is going have to get used to me on our little bridge. I keep waiting for someone to call the house and tell the hubby they saw me...

It wasn't the best sunset but after failed attempts of artificial light ideas, it was a welcomed dose of natural light. Thanks NaturalLight for the title idea.

Windows along Fifth Avenue in Manhattan enjoy some golden reflective color, courtesy of a brilliant post-sunset glow. Look closely and you will see an interesting play between inner and external light here. I replaced the original I posted here with another shot, this time cropped to a square (my first square crop) because it comes together better that way. Because this photo generated some interest, I've reposted the original here: Basking windows (original)

I've also posted a photo to give context to this photo: Basking windows (context)

Looking east across Moss Lake toward Enchanted Rock at sunset with some high clouds in the air catching the last light.

Another last-minute sunset dash, this time to the Deck. After the sky started to clear after the early evening rain there was always a good chance of a colourful sunset but by the time I had got myself organised it was virtually set. Another 5 mins would have given me a full colour sky. As it was it was reduced to just the horizon.

To anyone not local this is the recently refurbished Silver Jubilee bridge reflecting in a still Manchester Ship Canal on the banks of the River Mersey.
