Sunset captured badly from car window, it was magnificent.

Beautiful sunset captured through the sidelight window of my front door.

Bright sunset captured out on my local golf course

A colourful sunset captured from the Back Beach at Bunbury, Western Australia. The beach is rather steep here and there’s not a lot of room or time to avoid the swash; thus, I ended up with soaking shoes and a wet tripod for my efforts.

A year ago I would never have considered taking a photo like this. And if I (somehow) did... I certainly wouldn't have shared it on social media! :)

How could a subject as simple (and potentially boring) as this ever compare to some of the other amazing stuff that I have been fortunate enough to photograph in the past dozen (and more) years!?

How could a photo like this ever compete, for instance, with a photo of the ancient dead acacia trees in Namibia's Deadvlei... or with a panorama of a deserted beach along the shores of Lake Malawi... or with a wide-angle shot of the lavender fields in southern France... or a photo of a rainbow over the rugged coastline on Scotland's Isle of Skye... or a photo of the early-morning mist-filled valleys of Tuscany's Val d'Orcia... or a photo of a tranquil lake reflecting snow-capped mountain peaks in the Canadian Rockies... or a photo of the Aurora Borealis above a small fishing village on a remote island in Norway... or a twilight photo taken at Milford Sound on New Zealand's south island... or (last but not least) a photo of Table Mountain at sunset, captured from the rocks at the end of Blaauwberg beach?

Simple answer... this could never compete with any of those amazing things that I've seen and photographed! Or could it?

The thing that bugs me the most about landscape photography is that (much too often) successful photographs are entirely dependent on the weather. The best chance we have for our photos to be better than the thousands of other photos already taken at any of the amazing locations mentioned in the above paragraph (and others)... is if the weather is better when we take our photos. That was one thing that I realised many years ago. If one of my photos included a rainbow, or a bolt (or two) of lightning, or a couple of perfectly positioned pink clouds, or some fog/mist... then that photo was bound to get more likes, comments and shares than my other photos. The success of my landscape photos always seemed to be (mostly) weather-dependent. What a pity.

This photo is entirely weather-independent. This photo is all about the subject (juxtaposition between young and old), a carefully considered composition, gritty textures, some nice soft light, and technique (sharpness, contrast, exposure, saturation, etc.).

Sorry folks... if by some miracle you're still reading this... then you can move along now... there are no rainbows or unicorns to be seen here. :)

Comet Neowise just after sunset. Captured from Rimrock Overlook, near Warren Pennsylvania. The last comet I recall seeing was Halley's in the 80s, but this was far more spectacular to me.

And thanks to Barbara- The photographer whom I bumped into and not only gave me the prime spot, but gave me some pointers on how to capture this awesome spectacle!

The weekend before last we were fortunate enough to witness one of the best sunsets of the year and from one of the country’s most spectacular vantage points (Land’s End, Cornwall). I spent half an hour either side of sunset capturing the changing light and skies from a variety of locations along the coastal path. My favourite images, including this one, were those taken as the sun began to disappear below the horizon and that incorporated a carpet of heather in the foreground. Thanks for looking.

When I grabbed my camera bag and told my wife that I was headed to the park, she questioned my sanity and wondered just how wet I would get. I knew it would be dicey and it was raining when I got there. There were two large storm cells in the area and lightning was still crackling in the sky when I arrived. I stayed in the car and began shooting out of the window for a while from another location. There was a rainbow in the sky, but I didn’t want to press my luck with the electricity in the sky. I had a run-in with the stuff a number of years ago and have zero interest in spending another night in the hospital under observation.

I would like to cut to the chase but need to explain things a bit more. One cloud was parked nicely in the western sky and the other sat behind me in the east. It would be a memorable evening. I grabbed the new Sony and began firing away. I think the camera has acquitted itself beautifully and I hope that it will be as reliable as the old Sony A700. The photo was taken at El. Franco Lee Park just after sundown. For those that want to stop reading here, please feel free to do so. If you didn’t make it this far, I understand as well. What follows are my thoughts on the new camera.

I still had my doubts about camera and had considered trading it in on something else, but I am glad that I didn’t make my usual impulsive decision and that I waited and gave it another chance. I had used it for other sunset captures but was unhappy with the results. I switched to my old trusty program mode and dialed in some setting and voilà, the magic began. I also had major concerns about the 1” sensor and the IQ of the photos, but those concerns were quickly put behind me when I downloaded these photos and began to take a critical look at them. Is the sensor a match for a larger sensor? Likely not! It is up to the task of rendering some nice sharp captures if you hit all of the marks on your settings. For me, the camera is a keeper and very capable in the right hands. Hope everyone enjoys the photos.

There was a bit of lightning imbedded in this cell, but I could never get the timing right. Wishing everyone a wonderful day and thanks to everyone for listening to my madness.

This is the view west across the peaks of Yosemite just after sunset, captured during the drive back to our accommodation from a scenic daytrip out. The image isn’t as sharp as I’d normally like, but for a 30-second exposure at 300 mm perhaps I’m being overly critical. Thanks for looking.

I created Abstract: Angelic Vision applying several photoshop elements 8 fun effects, color variations, light additions, some distortions, etc... on a sunset shot that I took at one of the Deltona Florida Lakes.

The original sunset capture had intense and warm golden tones, and with that shot I created another abstract image that God willing, by the end of this month, I intend to upload. I hope you enjoy the images as much as I did creating them.

I can not thank you enough for your kind and loving support.

Happy Easter to all of you!

Sunset captured during the trip back to Ubatuba

This "crushed" sunset capture is dedicated to my mother, the wonderful Miss Cynthia I. Murray, who was lost to breast cancer back in early 2014. You will always live on in my heart and soul, and may you enjoy all of the crushed-sunsets for infinity, Miss Lady. Thank you for all of the wonderful memories; I will always treasure them for all of my lifetime and beyond.

Attempting Sunset captures

A misty sunset capture over Poole harbour this evening. On the beach side it was thick mist and in the harbour it was not to bad at first. As the sun started to sink lower the mist got thicker.

Sunset, captured from back of my garden. Sunset always beautiful like the Chinses phrase, its short, only a moment.

Southeast Point, Sanibel Island, Florida USA

Well lit plant just before sunset.

Captured on vibrant Kodak Portra 800.

Schkopau, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.

Taken along the York River in Maine, this causeway looks pretty cool and with the anchor "bench" rock would make for a wonderful sunset capture.

Our fist this month. Again, another evening canoe trip down the Cornwall canal, cold and overcast. Dull, grey sky that glowed with twilight for a few minutes after sunset. Captured the colour off the gunnel.

Sunset capture at Agaete.

Agaete is a municipality of Las Palmas province, on the Canary Islands, Spain. It is in the northwest of Gran Canaria island, enclosed by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Gáldar to the northeast, and Artenara to the south. Agaete's area is 45,50 km².

Agaete used to be the preferred city to get a view of El Dedo de Dios, a natural monument on the coastline, before the latter was destroyed during Tropical Storm Delta in November 2005.

A sunset capture. Experimenting with the camera'a scene mode "Romantic Sunset Glow".

Since running become my passion, we travel to Kuching, Sarawak almost every year now to participate in the Kuching Marathon. To be honest I totally enjoy the Half Marathon route, half running in village road and half inside the Kuching Town itself. This year marked my 2nd year running in Kuching Marathon. Will I be back? Either repeat the same HM route maybe upgrade myself to participate in the Full Marathon. Hehehe. Still a lot to digest right now. In this view you can see the New Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Building just at the left of this picture.

This beautiful sunset captured inside our room in Grand Margherita Hotel, our favorite 4-star hotel in Kuching. Just in-front of the famous Kuching Waterfront. Affordable rate and most of the attraction are within walking distance. Our 2nd straight stay in this hotel.

This image is part of my timelapse captured during that day, with the help of LensSkirt, I manage to capture continuous image for my timelapse sequence behind locked glass window.. Using my trusted Sony A7R and paired it with my favorite Sony Vario-Tessar T* FE 16-35mm f/4 ZA OSS Lens.

Minor editing in ADOBE Photoshop CC 2015. Hope you like it.

Sooc apart from slight sharpening! Sunset captured after a quick dash to the quay after work.

Portrait crop just for a change!

A pleasant sunset captured from the north side of Bosham's tidal harbour. One of those rare days where you pinch yourself because the elements behaved themselves, I didn’t get a boot full of water and I didn’t discover, once I got home, that I had left my camera setup for Astro!

Thanks as always for your interest and support.

Charming sunset captured at Sharma beach north of Saudi Arabia

Just a random sunset capture of our bay and peninsula during early summer in Erie, Pennsylvania. After the moon shot comes the sun shot!

NOTE: Flickr has been seriously messed up for weeks now. Maybe Yahoo should have accepted Microsoft's bid.... who knows it could have been better. We have seen too many Flickr bugs lately. I don't think I will be posting much since a lot of you can't even see my images... plus I am very busy. I was trying to upload an image today and nobody could see it so I just deleted and will repost later.

Have a wonderful day everyone! :-)

My role model! If I can become half the dad of him....then I have done well. My Dad wanted to come along for a sunset capture so here we are...posing. I better stick to photos with no people in them!!! [LOL!!!]
