This shot was a happy accident. I was on route one morning to shoot the sunrise at Loch Leven in Perthshire when as I crested a hill I caught sight of this view in the rear view mirror. I was concerned that if I stopped I would be late for the sunrise on site and miss out on the planned shot. I was about half way down the other side of the hill when I decided to stop and go back for the shot at the hilltop. I’m really please I did because not only did I catch some fantastic clouds and colour in the sky when I did finally make it to the loch it was completely hidden under the thick blanket of mist in this image. Good call!
Another sunrise and another yacht. This time the owner/crew came out on to deck to enjoy the sunrise. The waters were unbelievably calm
Another picture of the swallowtail, which I photographed on the heights of the South Eifel during the sunrise.
The sun rose in the morning mist and was not very bright for a few minutes.
The problem was the butterfly itself, who was constantly wriggling, while always keeping his wings open in this threatening gesture.
The colors and drawing on the butterfly itself I have achieved through a reflector. In addition, the tonal range of the D810, in contrast to previous cameras is gigantic and works when working in Lightroom real wonders.

Again, I would like to thank everyone for your support, views, faves and comments!
Two more from the beautiful morning - It was magical to come out to the blue hour, getting purple haze, to the south sky being in flames, and still the north sky kept the blue, getting purple at the same time
Sunrise taken early morning at Knowlton.
12th Century Church built on a Neolithic Henge for this one I got down pretty low to get this pov and the early morning dew.
Three pelicans attend to their feathers at sunrise...
A few of their buddies are swimming in the background :)
Solstice sunrise on the bluff above the Palmer Hay Flats State Game Refuge in Wasilla, Alaska. Looking towards Birchwood across the inlet.
I got up at 3am to photograph a comet but it was hidden behind a band of cloud. I did get a lovely sunrise over Ullswater
Early morning sunrise on the Lake..I couldn't get out in the boat because of winds in the sunset time so I got up at sunrise to try to capture some early morning happenings on the lake. I walked the shoreline
Have to admit the D700 struggles just a bit with dynamic range in a scene like this -- probably the reason multiple-exposure HDR became popular about 10 years ago, when this generation of cameras was state-of-the-art. No worries, it's still become my favorite camera to shoot with.
I hope all are having a great week.
Colourful sunrise, Finland.
This was one of the more special sunrises I remember witnessing. Not sure if you can see it in the image but there was also a greenish hue on the sky.
The curious ice formations sparked my interest also as I wondered if someone had already driven a snowmobile there. But clearly that was not the case as the lake had frozen over just that night. Apparently the shapes were nature's work after all.
I liked how the taller forest on the right horizon acted as a compositional element. It's not a mountain but better than nothing.
Many years ago, I was lucky enough to to be offered a "fly-out" trip to Kasmere Lake, from Nueltin Lake, in northern Manitoba. These were the days before a lodge was built on the lake and our "accommodation" for the trip was a long abandoned hunter's cabin. There's something special about waking to a wilderness sunrise and knowing that you and your companions are the only people there.
