SAIL Amsterdam is a quinquennial maritime event in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Tall ships from all over the world visit the city to moor in its eastern harbour, and people can then visit the ships.
The event was organised for the first time in 1975 to celebrate the 700th anniversary of Amsterdam, under the name 'Sail Amsterdam 700'. At that time, interest in tall ships, which had sunk to a low since the 1930s when the last commercial tall ships had been built, was starting to rise. The success of Sail Amsterdam 700 led to the establishment of the Stichting Sail Amsterdam (SSA, Foundation Sail Amsterdam).
Sail is one of the largest maritime manifestations in the world, and the largest event of any kind in the Netherlands. Tens of tall ships and hundreds of other historical ships are involved. Numerous other ships and boats are present besides the participating ships, amounting to 8000 boats in the 2000 edition.

Driving across the plains of Montana, couldn't pass up stopping to check out this sight that appeared in the rear view.
The last in the great neckwarmer craze of 2008. This is probably my favourite of the ones I've made as it sits nicely and doesn't require much adjusting once it's on. I still need to find a brooch or clasp of some kind to fasten it, but still haven't found anything i like as yet.

On a walk around lIam Gardens with a Flickr freind May 2019 Christchurch New Zealand.
In 1860 Sir John Cracroft Wilson came to Christchurch from India and brought seeds of a few varieties of rhododendrons and raised seedlings. Rhododendrons growing along the drive at Strowan kindled Stead's interest in these flowers, but there were few varieties available in New Zealand. He imported some for Ilam each year and from 1918 used cool storage for importing them.
Our world is so beautiful. It is a gift to be able to live on it. For this reason we should not destroy her by senseless wars and pollution.
