Pies have an important place in New Zealand folklore and culture. There are many varieties from many different makers to be found all over the country. Some are the mass-produced products of meat companies, others are the product of much smaller artesian bakeries, more often than not employing personal recipes that have been passed down over generations.
Whilst out today enduring unseasinally wet and cold wether locally, we went to the supermarket around lunch time to get the weekly shopping done. we decided to source lunch whilst we were there. When checking out the hot food cabinet, my eyes were drawn to a couple of pies in unfamiliar packaging. One was Lamb the other Beef. Maketu Pies Sunday Best brand was new to me and I decided to purchase the prime beef and blue cheese example. Once back in the car outside the pie was thoroughly enjoyed by both of us!
Me: So Tommy's standing.
Mom: Yeah.
Me: Anything you'd care to share about that?
Mom: Um...no. He was pretty athletic, Tommy. He walked early and he crawled early.
Me: But he still can't walk yet.
Mom: No, I think he is just standing there.
Me: Is this his Sunday best?
