Something I've only seen a few times.... Sun Pillars appear as a shaft of light extending vertically above the sun, most often at sunrise or sundown. They develop as a result of ice crystals slowly falling through the air, reflecting the sun's rays off of them. Look for sun pillars when the sun is low on the horizon, and cirrus clouds are present.

For "Crazy Tuesday" group theme "Time Piece"
Marked 'A.W.Gamage Holborn', a 'POCKET SUN-DIAL & COMPASS' dating from the early 1900s.
It isn't in great condition but the instructions inside the lid are complete and can be read, the compass works, and the gnomon holds in position, so it makes a reasonable timepiece!
I think it belonged to my grandfather.
Incidentally its a sunny morning, time to be up - 8 o'clock!

Another sunrise shot - more to come! Crawled out of the tent at stupid o'clock to see the dawn. It was misty in the valleys below.
Drygarn Fawr is a mountain in the county of Powys, Wales. It is one of the highest summits in Mid Wales standing at 645 metres above sea level. Rising above the remote moorland plateau of the Cambrian Mountains, the summit is topped by two distinctive, large cairns.
on our way back to the camp.
Thank you very much for your visits comments and favs - especially for the last pictures... you explored them! Thank you very much!!
Caught this yesterday very unexpectedly at sundown...this is called a "sun pillar" and would not have known this had I not been a fan of "spaceweather.com" This is the first one I've ever seen and do wish I'd got better shots than what I had and the trees obscure the view here. Pardon the snowbanks, we've had snow!!

Sun, sometimes you like it sometimes you hate it...
All depends on you timing, location, situation and your mood.
You can't change the Sun and the situation.....
But you can change yourself and your location to makes you feel better!
So, instead of blaming others, why not "CHANGE" and make yourself comfortable. ;)
Said goodbye to neighbor and sometimes model Carol last week. She transitioned as friends sometimes do from a physical presence in my life to a tiny number alongside the text icon on my phone. We vowed to keep in touch, but it's never quite the same once neighbors are no longer defined as such. Her new home is just a few hours away, but might as well be across the country. I'm grateful that the universe brought us together for the relative short time we shared. And for the many scenes we were able to capture together. Our final session (neither of us knew it at the time) was last autumn in a parched soybean field under a magnificent sky. At times the low sun virtually electrified the withered crop field, seemingly bringing the plants back to life in a sea of light and texture. And there stood Carol, rendered in absolute shadowy blackness. It was as if someone had taken an X-Acto knife and simply cut her out of the photo. Prophetic indeed. Upon departing I told her we could return here any time for another session as it was literally within walking distance of our homes. But I had an uneasy sense that we never would.
