The car rental company Sixt, known for their original and sometimes aggressive advertising, helps customers of their competitors quickly find the way to the next automatic teller machine.
This past week I reached for banana to take to work. Hey - I even took 2 since I'd had a hard workout the day before.

Not Subtle
Along the River Walk in West Sacramento, “Subtile” is a shimmering and towering sculpture above the Sacramento River. The $500,000 piece was created by Czech artist Federico Diaz. It’s the emerging artist’s first outdoor public art piece.
Last summer, we were hanging out with D's brother and parents when somehow the conversation meandered to inheritances. The only thing he wanted, D's brother said, was the cast iron skillet his parents have been using (and thus seasoning). I'm not a lover of cast iron skillets. I don't get the allure of what in my eyes amounts to a dirty skillet (don't hate me, 7day foodies!), so I said that what I'd want would be one of the heirloom quilts my MIL has that were handed down to her from her mother and grandmother.
A while later, I got a phone call from my MIL in which she very subtly and skillfully extracted some information from me - namely, that I would never think of using an heirloom quilt as a regular blanket and would instead treat it with care and keep it safe.
Fast forward to this morning, when we arrived at their house and she said "Good to see you! Merry Christmas! Sonja, come here - I can't wait ANY LONGER to give you your Christmas gift!" I'm not one to say no to a gift (or to instant gratification), so I followed her to the tree... except she took a detour and led me to her bedroom instead. (Of course you know where this is going, but me? I had not the faintest idea.) And on the bed, for me to take home? The quilt her grandmother made her! Noah's great-great-grandmother!
Bonus: Nobody had to die for the inheriting!
Bridge on the Heritage Trail, Merrimack. It would have been great without that gorgeous orange tree, but with it. Woah.
