Thank you so much for your visits, comments and favorites. They are much appreciated!

I used a sheet of white styrene plastic to diffuse the bright sunlight. Just a regular photograph, no HDR.

A 45-rpm single that did not survive the trip from Great Britain to the west coast of North America intact. I've purchased quite a few singles from England, usually shipped in thin, but amazingly rigid, mailers that protect their contents quite well. I vaguely recall this one was not packaged that well for the torturous journey.

What's worse, this one was made from polystyrene (styrene), not the usual polyvinyl chloride (vinyl). Styrene singles were cheaper to manufacture than vinyl, but were more prone to wear and breakage. A new styrene single, played on a decent turntable with an ideal tracking force setting, can sound fantastic over many plays; they wore out faster than vinyl, however, played on portable phonographs at home and in the classroom, record changers, radio station turntables, and the like. I suspect this record has enough wear to affect its sound quality had it arrived in one playable piece.

On Sunday evening 17th of May, 2020, Rail Force One’s 1829 and 1831 hauled a styrene train from Bad Bentheim to Kijfhoek Zuid. Here we see this train at Teuge.

Teuge (NL), 17-05-2020

On the 21st of May 2020, two trains of Rail Force One were diverted over the so-called “Hanzelijn”, the line between Lelystad and Zwolle which usually sees very little freight trains. This was caused by maintenance works between Hilversum and Baarn. The picture shows the first of them at Dronten. The train consists of the 1829 with a styrene train, on route from Kijfhoek Noord towards Bad Bentheim. At Bad Bentheim, a locomotive of RBH will take the tank cars on the next part of its journey towards Eastern Europe.

Darth Maul is the fearsome sith warrior from Episode I: The Phantom Menace, and is the fifth figure in my series in which I am making a villain from each Star Wars episode. The others in the series are:

Episode II: Attack of the Clones - Jango Fett

Episode III: Revenge of the Sith - General Grievous

Episode IV: A New Hope - Darth Vader

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - TR-8R/Nines

I am really enjoying making this series of minifigures, I hope you guys are enjoying the series too!

On to the figure itself, I really enjoyed the interchangeability of my General Grievous figure, so I wanted to include that element into this figure as well, but making a removable cape and hood like the one Darth Maul wears in his first encounter with Qui Gon Jinn in Episode I. It can then be removed to portray him as he appears in his duel with Qui Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi at the end of Episode I.

A major focus on this figure was the lightsaber – not only is Darth Maul’s lightsaber iconic, but it is rather large, and trying to get it to the right scale was quite a challenge, but Sander and Josiah really helped out there. The blades are removable and custom-made, as I wanted an opaque blade that was a bit lighter than the standard TLG lightsaber blades.

This figure was sculpted by me using procreate, with additional details using Tiny Tactical and Styrene. It was then painted with Vallejo Model Paints (which I just recently picked up and I am quite impressed with!).

Let me know what you guys think!

As evening shadows grow longer, a pair of Watco end cabs switch a cut of tank cars at Goodyear's Houston Chemical Plant.

The plant is a formerly government-owned synthetic rubber plant built to produce "government rubber-styrene" in support of US armed forces in World War II. Goodyear operated the plant since its startup in 1943 and finally bought the plant outright in 1955. In the present, it still manufactures Emulsion Styrene-Butadiene Rubber and warrants daily service via a dedicated turn run from UP's Strang Yard.

Excerpt from the plaque:

The Mississauga Miracle Fire!

The derailment ruptured numerous tanker cars, spilling styrene, propane, caustic soda onto the tracks and into the air. As the flames erupted, the train’s courageous brakeman managed to uncouple two freight cars, so that the first 32 cars of the train could be driven away from the blaze, preventing a greater disaster from occurring.

First figure of 2016!

This is the second figure in my series in which I am making a villain from each episode. The others in the series are:

Episode II: Attack of the Clones - Jango Fett

I wanted to make a First Order Stormtrooper since I saw the film opening week, and only got around to it now. It was originally planned to be a simple trooper, but upon my good friend Sander's suggestion, I made TR-8R, a character who has been very popular online lately.

The full story behind this traitor-hating trooper has been revealed on starwars.com - he is/was a member of Finn's squad and is FN-2199, AKA 'Nines', who is mentioned in the novel 'Before the Awakening' by Greg Rucka.

Anyways, to the figure now, all of the details on the body were sculpted with ProCreate/made from scratch with styrene, with exception of the helmet, which is a standard TLG helmet which had details added and the white repainted to match the armour. The traitor-killer (ie. the Z6 Riot Baton) was made using styrene and a Brickarms Halo SMG.

Also, painting and photographing flat white figures is a pain in the ass.

Hope you guys like the figure! :D

So I am finally continuing with my Star Wars series and this is the sixth figure in the series. The previous figures in the series are:

Episode I: The Phantom Menace - Darth Maul

Episode II: Attack of the Clones - Jango Fett

Episode III: Revenge of the Sith - General Grievous

Episode IV: A New Hope - Darth Vader

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - TR-8R/Nines

I worked on this figure for a long time, having started it around the same time as Darth Maul and General Grievous, but I never finished it then. When I was sculpting the details for Poe I continued with the sculpting on Boba. I finished it and then spent most of this week painting it.

Boba is quite easily one of my favourite characters ever, and after seeing so many excellent customs of him (such as Sander's and AndrewVxtc's - go check them out!), I knew I had to add him to my collection, especially because I have already made Jango.

Finally, the weapon was made using some Brickarms and styrene parts.

I am really proud of this figure, please let me know what you guys think!

Also known as the Skull Sorcerer. Also known as Vangelis. I was happy to score him in one of the Lego Ninjago magazines along with a Lloyd (the Sorcerer was minus his wings and the Skull of Hazza D'ur but ten bucks for two figs is still cool). The figure foil pack is set number 892174.

And is it just me or does the Skull Sorcerer's voice have a certain black metal flavour to it?

Santa brought Fred and his dog Spike a beautiful new sled for Christmas. Fred desperately pushes

his feet against the steering bar to go right, but Spike’s powerful foot is pressed on the other side.

Fred screams at Spike, “Get your foot OFF the steering bar, Spike! We need to veer right!” Spike

understands none of it but grunts in sheer delight. Fred screams, "Nooooo!" fearing for a disastrous ending to their wild sled ride. Now they are speeding towards the drop off...

details of construction:

I made the snowgirl out of craft styrofoam, her scarf was a holiday shoelace with the metalic threads removed. Fred's scarf was trimmed fabric ribbon, the edges were painted with glue to prevent unraveling. The tree was made from supplies out of a diorama kit. The snowgirl's features and buttons are Texas Bindweed seeds with a dollhouse carrot for her nose, backyard twig for arms. The sled is a toy Radio Flyer. The snow is poly fiberfill with ground styrofoam sprinkled over it. Spike's scarf was borrowed from another toy.

It is easy to make snow from the same styrofoam that snow lady is made from. Just take two chunks out of a seat and rub them together. Keep rotating sides to avoid friction heat. I did this over a large styrene container. At one point, I use single layer sifter (flour type) to spread evenly over the poly fiberfill

Christmas market was opening - For me it seems far too early to even imagine getting in the mood. I can be a bit of a Christmas grump anyway.

Interesting to look at the security barriers to stop any vehicle attacks - obvious enough to reassure people that the market is protected but tasteful, unobtrusive and easy for people to walk through with out any impediment.

I think the best thing for me is the real feeling of connectedness with the past whilst accepting and even embracing the big changes that happen from one year to the next. But to feel this properly we also need constancy- small things that just stay the same from one year that we can notice, value and enjoy.

In 1951 Monsanto begin making plastic polymers on this 87 acre Ohio River site. Numerous EPA violations were found at this location over the years. In 1996 Bayer purchased this plant and operated it until 2005 when they sold it to Lanxess, a Bayer subsidiary. Ineos assumed operations in 2007. In November the 180 employees were told the plant would close at the start of summer 2025 and if not sold would be dismantled and cleaned up of toxic waste. The village of Addyston, with 927 residents, received 1/3 of its budget from this plant. Addyston did away with its police department and is working on other budget cuts. A styrene filled tanker leaked a couple of months ago and caused an evacuation near the plant. That incident resulted in road closures and evacuations. The question remains, is Addyston better off with or without the plant?

Home movies on Super-8 film, where memories painted onto a clear, perforated acetate plastic strip are wound onto a polystyrene plastic reel.

Even though analog and, later, digital video technologies pretty much rendered Super-8 obsolete as a home-movie medium, the format lives on to this day for filmmakers wanting the look of the format in the most authentic way possible.

Merry Christmas everyone! This year, I decided to do something a little bit different than before - I usually just upload a random image from Google to wish everyone in time for the holidays, but this time I planned ahead and made a figure to celebrate this wonderful time of year.

I hope you all have an amazing day tomorrow with your families and friends - I doubt many of us will be on here tomorrow, so I figured I would get my wishes in before then.

As for the figure itself, all of the details were hand crafted/sculpted using Styrene and Green Stuff, except for the Brickarms M9 which is in Santa's sack of Christmas presents.

Thank you all for always being such a great community to be a part of - I look forward to another great year ahead!

Here is my custom Thor figure as he appears at the end of Thor Ragnarok and in the new Avengers: Infinity War.

I based the outfits off of the new Hot Toys pictures, because they give tons of detail reference pictures.

So the torso is custom sculpted, with a custom Stormbreaker made using a Brickarms Axe and LEGO Mjolnir, augmented with sculpting and styrene elements.

The collar piece is removable to allow for the cape to fit beneath it, which I think is a nice feature.

Hope you guys like this figure!

Hey guys!

So this is a figure I've really wanted to make literally since the character was unveiled back in 2015, but I didn't wanna botch the helmet sculpt, so I sort of lost interest before I got around to making it.

When Sander released his helmet I knew the time had come (but at that point I'd sort of put the hobby down).

Aaanyways, I really wanted to wait and do his outfit from The Last Jedi, but after seeing it I was underwhelmed. So, I decided to do his outfit from TFA, but do something a bit different and use actual fabric for his robes. So he has a custom made hood, tunic, ribbed sleeves, and a custom fabric shawl/cape.

As you can see each fabric element is individually removable, even the tunic!

The belt was made with etape, with a sculpted buckle.

The lightsaber was made with styrene and brass tubing, with the blades made from hot glue and then painted.

Hope you guys like the figure!

These two models were built from scratch when I was first married, on the living room table. Little used to be available beyond approximate add-on parts (between the wheels) and you just sat down with styrene sheet, a steel ruler and a craft knife. You even had to hand paint the lettering...

The left hand one has a 9ft wheelbase and spoked wheels; and on the right, 10ft apart with 3-hole disc wheels for a smoother ride. The axleboxes I shall leave the experts to spot the approximations. How things have changed!

By the way, on many monitors, these models will present twice life-size!

The Space 1999 Eagle Transporter, one of the prettiest Sci-Fi spaceships ever designed.

Amazingly, the Eagle predates Star Wars by two years. Without the Eagle, the Millennium Falcon would be a very different hunk of junk. Really, it would!

If there was a Spaceships Hall of Fame, this would be in the main hall.

This is built form a 22" Eagle, an MPC Round2 styrene injection kit, released about a year ago. Incredibly, it's the first serious styrene kit of the Eagle ever. I got mine from the first batch early January. I built it in the summer, another "quick build" I said to myself. Hah, there's no such thing! I spent weeks, if not months on this. It's a superb kit though, a lot of fun to put together. And yes, I made a lot of special modifications myself.

I hope to get the chance to photograph it more soon.

We don't give much notice to the ubiquitous garbage truck, yet without it, life would get pretty interesting within a few days.

In Elgin Park, there was only one such truck, owned by "Pip" Paulson, and he made the rounds tirelessly, 5 days a week.

All of the town's castoffs were taken down by the river, at a place called Bunkie's Landing. This used to be a notorious area for rum running and other nefarious activities, back in the 1920's and '30s, but times had changed and the town's dump was now there.

Back to "Pip" Paulson; he was a valued citizen who performed a very necessary task that kept the town running smoothly. He bought himself a new Buick in 1948, seen here, which he kept in tip top shape and remained his only car until he passed away in 1965.

A hail and hearty Hurrah! for the "sanitary engineers" throughout the world. This photo is dedicated to you.

As for the model...the business end of the garbage truck, in the photo, was handmade, based on an early '50s design. It is constructed of styrene plastic and found objects.

need to get the right size bags next time

So, this is my first set of figures where I have not given a f**k about making it by release, and in case you missed the video I posted on YouTube, this is going to be how I do things now. Anyway, there were definitely a couple of challenges with this set, but the biggest one was time consumption. Gladiator Hulk took so much work. That was definitely my biggest takeaway here: big-figs with detail take forever.

Alright, here we go:

Thor:

●Heavily modified/painted sleepy hairpiece.

●Sword blades were made from old credit cards.

●Torn cape goes over the torso post (obviously) but rests in between the torso & belt piece.

●I do have the helmet painted up for him, but that’ll be in the showcase video.

Gladiator Hulk:

●AH MY GOD THIS BIG-FIG TOOK SOOOOOO LONG TO MAKE.

●Everything on this big-fig was fully repainted except for his eyes and mouth.

●Various 3D elements: straps, straps, and more straps.

●Sculpted waist armor cape/armor thing.

●Heavily modified/painted LEGO war hammer.

●Custom battle axe made from a bar piece, connector, and a couple pieces of styrene.

Loki:

●Seriously modified helmet w/ sections of a Wonder Woman hairpiece glued in. Had to carefully cut out the top and back of the helmet, and I actually had to wreck two Wonder Woman hairpieces. One for the top, and one for the lower half. Honestly didn’t expect this mod to work lol.

●Face is from LEGO. Surprisingly good likeness to Tom Hiddleston.

●Modified/painted BrickForge Dress Daggers.

Valkyrie:

●Face is from a LSW Freemaker Adventures character (I forget which).

●Modified BrickForge Gladius sword, and for some reason it took me 4 tries to paint properly.

Hela:

●Pretty straight forward figure, cut out the upper half of the front of LEGO’s helmet, and a fully painted face to match the likeness of Cate Blanchett. Had a great time painting this one though. Loved the costume, just wish they would have developed her character more. Hela was too black and white for me. This isn’t relevant.

Alright, there ya go! That’s it! I’m done! Justice League is next! (probably)

Thanks guys.

My Entry for the RogueOlympics 2020 Week 8 where you have to build a MOC with the limit of max 101 Legoparts.

This week's theme: Elements.

DB Cargo 193 377 (91 80 6193 377-9 D-DB) + styrene empties (UN 2055) # Seelze (D) >>> Antwerpen (B).

The best place for America to build an Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene bomb is in a middle-class, midwestern subdivision. No one suspects the men in suits coming and leaving at all hours... no one has looked in the windows and seen the empty floor with a WMD in its center... and no one has noticed the decoy dummies set up in the yard...

Well... almost no one...

As this is my first post of 2015, I am glad that it is a figure which is inspired by some of my earlier gaming days.

I remember being incredibly excited for Assassin's Creed 1, but being slightly disappointed. Despite the game not living up to the hype, Altaïr was certainly a memorable character (although he doesn't really have much personality).

Almost all of the details were created using either styrene or sculpted using Green Stuff, except for the hilt of his sword which came from a Brickarms Damien Blade.

I hope you guys like the figure!
