Stuttgart - Porsche Museum (360°x180° Panorama)

Neues Schloss Stuttgart

Stuttgart is most well known for being the center of German auto manufacturing, which includes Mercedes-Benz and Porsche (which has a modified logo of the city seal). The train station seen here was constructed between 1914 and 1928 with several interesting architectural features; a limestone facade covered by brick, the flat roofing, and the 12-story tower topped by a rotating Mercedes-Benz logo. Inside holds a sandstone facade and reveals the 5m slope of the hillside the train station was built on, carefully hidden from the outside. The building was badly damaged during WWII but was restored. In 2010, the train station was extensively reworked, with the wings demolished, as part of the controversial Stuttgart 21 project to move the trains underground. Widespread protests opposing damage to this historic building and the removal of 250-year old trees nearby extensively delayed the project.
