Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSIs) for Scholars is a post-graduate level academic program for mid-career foreign scholars, faculty, practitioners, and secondary educators whose purpose is to strengthen curricula and to improve the teaching about the United States in academic institutions abroad. SUSIs for Scholars are six-weeks long. These Institutes are comprised of a four to five-week academic residency and a one to two-week educational study tour to a different region of the United States. During the Institutes, scholars engage in rigorous academic coursework and panel discussions, interact and establish networks with American scholars, meet with experts in respective disciplines, visit civic institutions, and in some cases, participate in research symposia and conferences.

While the rest of us wandered around, Nancy and Zoe sat for a bit to rest and look over some of our travel info. From that bench they had a great view of the koi pond and the lower area of the tea garden.
Sheree came over to borrow some gear-sleeping bag, boots, and a jacket-for a trip to New Hampshire this weekend. I'm always up for spending time with this awesome young woman. And not just because I want to get away from my work!
Three Studies for Portrait of Lucian Freud, 1965

This work shows the artistic dialogue between British painters Francis Bacon and Lucian Freud. While their visual styles differed, both were interested in the human figure and sat for each other on multiple occasions. Bacon painted Freud 14 times from 1964–1971, working from photographs rather than real life. Intimate knowledge of the sitter was also essential. ‘What I want to do is to distort the thing far beyond the appearance, but in the distortion to bring it back to a recording of the appearance’, Bacon said. His portraits powerfully convey the complexities of the human psyche.*
Tensions
While photographers grapple with the mechanics of the camera, painters continue to work with the surface of the canvas and the texture of paint. They often want to explore the material possibilities of the medium as well as the painted image itself. The artists in this room harness the expressive power of painterly materials and techniques. They create layered compositions which privilege abstract sensations over depictions of reality.
In Francis Bacon’s work every brushstroke is emotionally charged. He approaches the act of painting as an assault upon the human form, creating images of a complex and tormented inner self. Similarly, Paula Rego’s painterly technique forcefully expresses the violence of her subject matter.
Breaking down the human figure, Cecily Brown asks questions about how paint can convey the essence of bodies or figures. Can the texture of paint itself transmit the rawness and vibrancy of human flesh? Can painted images, as Bacon, Marwan and George Condo suggest, embody the multiple, fractured facets of the mind? Turning the canvas upside down and upsetting the visual order, Georg Baselitz asks that we look closer, not at the figures but at the painted surface instead. Material, expressive painting such as this resists the precision of the mechanical eye and a world increasingly filled with photographic imagery.*

Capturing The Moment
(June 2023 – April 2024)
The arrival of photography changed the course of painting forever. In this unique exhibition, we explore the dynamic relationship between the two mediums through some of the most iconic artworks of recent times.
From the expressive paintings of Pablo Picasso and Paula Rego, to striking photographs by Hiroshi Sugimoto and Jeff Wall, you will see how these two distinct mediums have shaped each other over time.
You will also discover how artists have blurred the boundaries between painting and photography, creating new and exciting forms of art, such as Pauline Boty's pop paintings, Andy Warhol’s silkscreen prints, the photorealist works of Gerhard Richter, or Andreas Gursky's large-scale panoramic photographs.
In an open-ended conversation between some of the greatest painters and photographers of the modern era, we explore how the brush and the lens have been used to capture moments in time.
Through a selection of modern and contemporary art, Capturing the Moment explores the relationship between the brush and the lens, and how artists have turned to painting and photography to capture moments in time. Rather than attempt a definitive account of the dialogue between the two media, an open-ended discussion is encouraged through varying depictions of people and place that invite us on a journey through recent art history.

The paint brushes and pencils are cocktail sticks that I shaped with a craft knife to make into pencil and brush shapes and then coloured with felt tips. The black pen pots are pieces of card glued into a circle and the pens glued into the pots. The playing cards I think were a printable in a magazine. In the background the basket of papers are just colourful bits out of magazine folded into shape.
The Department of Management Studies organized a LEADERSHIP CAMP-2021 exclusively for Final year students of Business Administration Stream and Commerce for two days on 05th & 06th March, 2021. Totally 50 students participated from 10 colleges of Tamilnadu actively participated in this leadership camp. NIT MBA –LEADERSHIP CAMP is the premiere Leadership Development programme for the budding graduates who enable them to be proactive rather than reactive. With the focus on giving the participants a perfect stepping stone into the real time environment, the Camp blends with the right mix of concepts and practical implementation. It provides a platform for continuous and sustained growth & development through a mutual sharing of experiences for effective managerial excellence.

NARRATION OF THE PROGRAMME
We have started the event with Inauguration on 05th March 2021 @ 10.30am. Dr.S.Naganandini, HOD, Department of Management Studies, NIT delivered the welcome address. Dr. M. Sivaraja, Principal, Nehru Institute of Technology delivered the Presidential address, Inaugural address given by Dr. B. Anirudhan, Principal, Nehru Arts & Science College, Coimbatore and followed by Felicitation given by Dr. N.K.Sakthivel, Dean-Academic Affairs, Nehru Institute of Technology and Mr. B. Thirumoorthi, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Management Studies, NIT delivered vote of thanks respectively. The first day we had four sessions on various topics related to leadership excellence and the Key Note speakers are Dr. B. Anirudhan, Principal, Nehru Arts & Science College, Dr. K. Ravikumar, Principal, NIITM, Dr.P.R.Balaji, Dean – Academic Affairs(Aeronautics) and Mr.B. Lawrence Burer, Director – Placements, NCPIR.
The second Day Session (06th March, 2021) started in NOBLE with the introduction speech by Mr.Sivakumar, Senior Trainer- NOBLE & followed by Motivation Speech given by Dr. S. Naganandini, Trainer – NOBLE. The session was full of icebreakers, Ground level activities and adventurous with low rope activities to bring back their childhood memories and to create a conducive environment among the participants by the trainers Dr. S. Naganandini, Mr. B. Thirumoorthi, Ms.N.Subha, Mr. V. Sathyamurthy and Mr. Hareesh.
On the same day, a special motivational address given by Dr. P. Krishnakumar, CEO & Secretary, Nehru Group of Institution and all the participants are received Leadership Excellence Award and Certificate from our CEO & Secretary, NGI. The workshop was concluded with the valedictory address given by Dr.R.Moses Daniel, Principal, Nehru College of Management and followed by the Participants shared their Leadership camp experience as a feedback. The event closed in exciting moments filled with emotions. The camp indeed proved to be a successful one filled with lot of cheerful moments to be treasured. The students finally were thankful to the Management, Principal and HOD for organizing the Leadership Camp.

This is a picture of me, my Señora, and my roommate after she finished making us up as true Sevillanas. We had a blast taking pictures and videos that captured this amazing experience. Living with our family, we really got a great feel for the culture. As part of the homestay, we took all meals with our families, exposing us to real Spanish cooking, and we would also watch Spanish television and movies with them, which improved our Spanish and provided for invaluable bonding experiences.
