Seen whilst I was on bike ride, so pocket camera.
Even as I was leaving, tractor arrived to cart them away. I would have liked to have spent more time but with dslr and wide angle lens. Very few round bales this year, most are rectangular. Why is this ?
Corn stubble being burnt in a controlled fashion - not good for the planet but this is how it is done for a permanent bed system which allows the roots of the corn to rot down and hold moisture for the following crop. The stubble itself would take 7 years to so do... A broad leaf crop is then planted between the corn stalks which were planted 4" apart. In this case Faber/Faba Beans will be sown...

It was a nice day. Had the kids, went to the museum to see Lucy (on loan from Ethiopia), had some lunch and ice cream. Even though I took a shower, I remained stubbly.

Wheat stubble is only there long enough until the next crop, such as late season soybeans, can be planted.

Deceptively painful knobs protrude from a local tree species.
What kind of tropical island doesn't have coconut trees fully lining its periphery? This one, apparently. As a result, I'm forced to make due with a strange local species of tree in lieu of the coconut tree cliche I promised yesterday. I wish I knew where these trees are normally found in order to share that knowledge with you. The sensation of accidentally grabbing a handful of its sharp knobs is a uniquely excruciating pain that should be experienced by all.
