An exercise in digital compositing. Model shot strobist style against a blue chroma background with 2 sb-24 flashes. One from camera right at full power trough umbrella. The other bare from camera left behind the model at 1/8 or 1/16. I really should have gone with some proper studio heads, as I had to use ISO 400 and the recycling time of the main light got pretty long. Balloons modeled and simulated with nCloth in Maya and rendered with Maxwell.

Shot as a promotional poster for my band, the Dogwood Deddy (which consists of my wife and I), this is more of a photo-illustration I suppose, but Strobist-friendly to be sure.
Strobist info: Two speedlights on either side, round about 50mm zoom, hard. Front fill is from a 3rd speedlight in a homemade beauty dish ala David Tejada's design. Smoke is composited in from some photos I took of incense burning, lit with one speedlight from the back/side.
Had I been paying more attention and not been required in the shot myself (me with the hat), I would have finessed the rim lights to avoid hitting her nose, and probably would have added one more small light source low to add a catchlight in her eyes. Also I'm not entirely sold on the details that I painted in for "realism," but I'm new to the technique and its good enough for now.
