Finally got to shoot some decent skateboarding pictures! My professor let me rent a portable generator and strobe. We got pulled over by like 6 cops last night riding around looking for good spots to light up. Not the best spot, but the skating makes up for it. This is where the fisheye comes into play in my photography!

3 lights scheme,Canon 5d mark III with 70-200 f/2.8 IS II at 2.8, 1/80, iso 400, camera on tripod. One strobe with warm filter EV +1, one strobe with blue filter and as a main light...one strobe without filter on big umbrella 152cm, exposure bias 0. Edited in PS contrast/filter.

One beauty dish for main light, gold reflector on the right side, one strobe(430ex) with small soft box high positioned, 2m, and one strobe (430ex II) with bounce diffuser, placed at 1m high from the floor, both speedlites was on manual mode, zoom 50mm and one strobe with reflector and grid for background. Texture of background was applied on ps.
Camera used 5d mk III with 70-200 2.8 IS II, at 120mm, triggered by PW tt5.

Placement of your strobe is really important. In this shot I had a new Carbon-Based-Voice-Activated light stand visiting for the day. Don (Wink of an Eye: www.flickr.com/photos/winkofaneye/ ) came by and was kind enough to help out on the project Briana and I are working on.
The sun is coming from behind her and camera right. Her hair is blocking the hard sun from hitting cheeks and nose. I had Don bring the 550 in close and straight in line with her face. This meant no nose shadows or chin shadows. I shot from the angle to give the light some flat approach.
The 550EZ has a single piece of silk over it to give a softer edge, but I am not sure it would be noticeable in a shot like this. There is simply so much ambient and direct light that the edges are not showing. The fill is approximately 1/2 stop less than the sun, and the flash exposure is what I am using. That means the sun is 1/2 stop brighter than the exposure.
Location is a tiny strip of planted area in the street near the studio. For my East coast friends, it was 66 and semi - sunny. Even at f8 there is significant drop in DOF to make it work. 100mm f2.8, f8, 1/160, late day sun.
Photoshop: minimal skin retouch and a tad of added saturation in the plants.
This is a really basic one strobe set-up that works well if you are shooting outside on the fly and you don't want to carry a lot of gear because you put your back out the day before :(
I would have loved to add a second strobe as edge light on the right of her face. Ah well, next time!

430EX strobe set to M 35mm 1/8th power triggered with Alien Bees Cyber Syncs. Light diffused with shoot-through umbrella.
Also, don't put your camera bag on the bottom of the stand like I did. It's a wee bit dangerous. You can use a sandbag or milk jugs full of water.

I have one or two sharp shots from this arrival sequence, but I'm simply in love with catching the strobe lights. This shot, has just a bit of blur on the nose and engine, but it couldn't just sit on my HD, had to share.

Strobist: Single speedlight, just out of frame, about where the wave was breaking, ~5' off the water (handheld).
Exposure set to capture the ambient light of the dashboard. To highlight the steering wheel one YN5600III speedlight was used on camera right with a Rogue grid with 25°. Power was at 1/16 th controlled via the YN560TX controller.
Strobing: Nuweer strobe camera left in shoot through umbrella; second street bare, camera right. Long exposure with rear curtain sync. (See EXIF)

This rose was given to us by friends who know their way around a rose garden. They grew it and cared for it, and all I had to do was light it and photograph it. Not bad.
Strobist info: The main light was from an SB600 in a softbox, camera right at 5 o'clock, and the fill light was a SB700 in a softbox at about 7 o'clock. Both in manual mode and triggered by the pop up flash on my D90 in Commander mode.
