Pour tout musicien, le jeu en duo représente une expérience résolument à part. Parce qu’il poursuit l’idéal d’un tête-à-tête dont les protagonistes fondraient leurs jeux dans le creuset d’une pensée commune, il met plus que jamais le partage à l’origine même du geste instrumental. Il n’exige pas seulement une très haute qualité d’expression, mais aussi une exceptionnelle qualité d’écoute.

Cet art de la conversation basé sur l’entente et l’attention à l’autre, le joueur de kora Ballaké Sissoko et le violoncelliste Vincent Segal le poussent à son plus haut degré de justesse. Tout comme le contrebassiste Renaud García-Fons et le joueur de kemençe (vielle traditionnelle turque) Derya Türkan.

Tous les quatre ont un désir profond de passer outre l’expression traditionnelle de leurs instruments, nourris de rythmes mandingues, d’influences occidentales et orientales, méditerranéennes et latines, pour découvrir ensemble de nouveaux espaces musicaux, rythmiques, raffinés et poétiques.

La profonde complicité de ces deux duos est telle que, d’un côté la kora et le violoncelle, et de l’autre la contrebasse et le kemençe, loin de s’adonner à un échange formel, s’expriment ici d’une même voix pour conclure un pacte qui vise au jaillissement d’une musique d’une

incroyable limpidité.

À l’évidence, c’est un grand moment d’émotion et de ferveur musicale que nous réserve cet étrange « quatuor à cordes » à l’instrumentation totalement inédite.
