First time shooting such low light in a studio. Couldn't use any flash light due to space and power limitations. Pretty decent first attempt that I'm happy with.

At the hinge where Chinatown begins to climb, this corner building holds its ground with quiet authority. The Chinese Railroad Workers History Center occupies a three-story structure that reads instantly as San Francisco: a flatiron-like geometry shaped by topography, brickwork painted deep charcoal, and trim that catches light just enough to outline its bones. The building sits squarely in the street’s logic, meeting the hill without flinching, letting the city rise around it.
The composition works because everything resolves toward the corner. The crosswalk lines, the curb, the gentle tilt of the street, and the receding storefronts all reinforce the building’s role as an anchor. It’s a familiar Chinatown streetscape—dense signage, layered façades, and tight setbacks—but pared back here to emphasize form, proportion, and presence. The absence of motion lets the architecture speak at a measured volume.
There’s a particular San Francisco calm in the color palette: warm rust-red trim against cool blue-gray walls, set under a pale, softly textured sky. It’s a combination that feels coastal and urban at once, shaped by fog, distance, and time. The fire escape adds just enough asymmetry to keep the façade from becoming static, a reminder that these buildings were designed to be lived in as much as looked at.
Photographed straight-on and unhurried, the scene rewards attention at both thumbnail and full frame. It’s a study in how San Francisco’s history embeds itself not through monumentality, but through corners like this—working buildings, still doing their job, still holding memory.
I found a beautiful scene of snowflakes falling on the lanterns in my garden, but I had Double-X 200 speed loaded in the camera. However, I heard that it's a very flexible film, so I changed the ISO to 400 for these night shots and developed it at 200.

I'm literally the worst at inspiring myself to take pictures, so here's hopefully the last time I make one picture cover a few days. Anyway, the past few days have been lazy, Lindsay and I just hung around the house. But in the evenings we've been making lovely dinners and sitting out on our porch enjoying the night air. These here are our outdoor decor, along with some candles on the table.

After nightfall, Golden Gate Park transforms into a living canvas during Lightscape, where trees, fog, and pathways become instruments of light. These images capture the event at its most immersive: branches traced with saturated color, mist pierced by theatrical beams, and foliage glowing as if lit from within. Rather than overwhelming the landscape, the installations lean into the park’s existing forms—root systems, trunks, canopies—amplifying their structure and rhythm through color and motion.
Walking the route feels less like viewing an exhibition and more like moving through a sequence of environments. Light wraps itself around eucalyptus limbs, climbs upward in slow pulses, then dissolves into haze before reappearing elsewhere. The crowd recedes into silhouette, becoming part of the composition, while the park’s familiar darkness anchors the spectacle. There’s a deliberate balance at work: moments of vivid intensity give way to quieter passages where light thins out and the night reasserts itself.
Lightscape works here because Golden Gate Park already knows how to hold scale. These installations don’t compete with the landscape—they collaborate with it, revealing texture, depth, and movement that daylight keeps hidden. The result is both celebratory and contemplative: a reminder that even in the middle of San Francisco, nature remains the primary architecture, and light is simply another way of listening to it.
After dark, Golden Gate Park becomes something else entirely. Paths dissolve into shadow, familiar trees slip their daytime identities, and light takes over as the dominant architectural material. Lightscape transforms the park into a slow, immersive procession where color, rhythm, and scale replace signage and sound.
These scenes unfold at walking speed. Ground-level points of warm light map the terrain like a constellation pressed into grass, guiding visitors forward without urgency. Elsewhere, trees are traced in saturated reds, blues, greens, and golds, their branching structures revealed as living diagrams—part nervous system, part skyline. Fog and mist catch beams of white light and fracture them into drifting planes, turning air itself into something sculptural and temporary.
What makes Lightscape work here is restraint. The installations don’t compete with the landscape; they collaborate with it. Mature trees become vertical canvases. Open lawns become fields of measured repetition. Darkness is not erased but carefully preserved, allowing color to feel earned rather than overwhelming. Even the presence of people recedes, absorbed into silhouette and motion, reinforcing the sense that the park itself is the primary subject.
Seen together, these moments form a quiet argument for public space as experience rather than spectacle. Lightscape doesn’t ask to be consumed quickly or photographed once and forgotten. It invites lingering, recalibration, and a renewed awareness of Golden Gate Park as one of San Francisco’s most adaptable—and most poetic—urban environments.

Zuerst war es nur ein Testbild für die Völlig losgelöst.
Mein Ziel war es eigentlich, Sterne in das Bild mit Rakete zu integrieren, aber das hätte das ICM unmöglich gemacht, und ich wollte keine Collage aus zwei Bildern, es sollte ein „echtes“ Foto sein. So habe ich entschieden, den blauen Planeten als eine Art Bonus zu veröffentlichen.
