Thanks for views, faves and comments! ;-)

New Mexico as well as other traveled places have so much in the way of culture, different cultures for music, food, language, people, places as well as dance. Many who enjoy learning about culture would enjoy the cultural center in New Mexico where these musicians were just two of many who played string instruments for the public to enjoy

Music gives colour to the air of the moment.

Musical instrument series: acoustic guitar #1

*Explore 8/27/13*

The violin (Italian: violin) is one of the most important instruments in classical music and is also used in other musical styles. It is a string instrument whose strings are played with a bow. Classical music in particular would be inconceivable without violins.

Jaisalmer is an UNESCO World heritage site and the large fort that is inhabited is in the middle of the little city. Sandstone mansions remain from the days of trading caravans.

In my travels I love to visit historical sites and there are always what I call a cast of characters who frequent the site. This wonderful musician is one of those folks of Jaisalmer. His music was captivating and enchanting. Oh yes, he got a big tip from me after I checked with my guide as often some forms of begging are frowned on by the Indian people. I always feel that street musicians earn the tips they receive.

Katsushika Hokusai (葛飾 北斎, c. 31 October 1760 – 10 May 1849), known simply as Hokusai, was a Japanese ukiyo-e artist of the Edo period, active as a painter and printmaker. He is best known for the woodblock print series Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, which includes the iconic print The Great Wave off Kanagawa. Hokusai was instrumental in developing ukiyo-e from a style of portraiture largely focused on courtesans and actors into a much broader style of art that focused on landscapes, plants, and animals. His works are thought to have had a significant influence on Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet during the wave of Japonisme that spread across Europe in the late 19th century. Hokusai created the monumental Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji as a response to a domestic travel boom in Japan and as part of a personal interest in Mount Fuji. It was this series, specifically, The Great Wave off Kanagawa and Fine Wind, Clear Morning, that secured his fame both in Japan and overseas. Hokusai was best known for his woodblock ukiyo-e prints, but he worked in a variety of mediums including painting and book illustration. Starting as a young child, he continued working and improving his style until his death, aged 88. In a long and successful career, Hokusai produced over 30,000 paintings, sketches, woodblock prints, and images for picture books in total. Innovative in his compositions and exceptional in his drawing technique, Hokusai is considered one of the greatest masters in the history of art.

Bass Guitar: Ernie Rail. Music Man StingRay 5 (Trans Red). With chrome hardware. [5 string]

First introduced in 1976, the StingRay has been revered as one of the most iconic bass guitars in history.

The first bass designed by Ernie Ball Music Man, the Stingray 5 was unveiled in 1987 and has been an industry standard for extended range basses ever since. With its powerful punchy sound, the added flexibility of additional pickups and a comfortably contoured body the StingRay5 satisfies even the most demanding of players. They are not made like this anymore sadly.

No Group Awards/Banners, thanks

It's nice to go back to some of my older photos and re-edit them as I gain knowledge. This was taken in 2010 in the then derelict Delph Independent Chapel. My identification of musical instruments is not a strong point, but have been told it is a harmonium.

The harmonium still lives on as a front cover of a vinyl (Ltd Edition) record by the US punk band Frustration - 'Broken Defective'.
