When buildings are being painted, refaced, or sandblasted, the scaffolding is covered in photo scrims depicting what the building looks like without scaffolding. They're very convincing. From a distance, the only way to determine whether a building is covered is often the "billboard". Actually part of the scrim, the "billboard" helps finance the work being done on the building and will go away when the work is completed. America, take note. Here, a Dolce & Gabbana "billboard" on a scrim-covered building glares at me as I photograph a group of Italian policemen wearing their uniforms designed by Georgio Armani. America, take another note.

This cheap and cheerful cafe in Coventry Street, Stourbridge, was established and run for many years by the Guglielmo family, who emigrated from Italy. It was known locally as "Gug's" and was a regular hangout for pupils from the nearby Grammar School and other teenagers. It also provided a haven for people of limited resources seeking tea and warmth. The premises are still used as a cafe and restaurant : The French Connection.
