One can just picture when this station bustled with passengers from all over the country, changing trains and walking out of the station for a quick sprint up Market Street to grab a bite to eat.
From the sharp tail to it's streamlined beak - one of my favourite photos from Kenya's coastline. The guides were amazed I got this close as it kept on flying away from us....'patience pays' I kept telling them :-)
Held at the Barnes Wallis Building, Manchester University on 2nd/3rd December 2017.
Camden 1B is a reconstruction of a 1930s/40s scene at Camden where locomotives of the LMS are turned, watered and coaled ready for their return journeys northwards from London Euston to Crewe, Manchester, Liverpool and Scotland. The engines would have pulled sleeper trains and expresses on the West Coast Main Line. O gauge, and very beautifully constructed.
I think I was lucky enough to speak to the owner, Joe Brown, and other members of his team. A fantastic model, and given its scope, a relatively small layout, of around 6m by 2m. A big thank you to all involved in this project.
Virginia & Truckee Railroad McKeen Motor Car No. 22. This unique self-propelled train car was built in 1910 by the McKeen Motor Car Company of Omaha, Nebraska. It had a very sleek, streamlined look for it's day, including a wind resistant front nose. Sold for scrap in 1946, for many years the body was part of a local plumbing store in Carson City. It has recently been restored to its former glory.

Streamlined cab comparison between HST power car No.43018 and APT-P No.370003.
There is some beauty to having these machines in close proximity at the Crewe Heritage Centre as the HST was intended as a stop gap until the APT entered squadron service. History now tells us the HST outlived the APT by nearly 40 years and is one of the greatest success stories of British railways.

Recent shift to AMC enables streamlined logistics services

CAMP CASEY, SOUTH KOREA – The logisticians who look after Warrior Country’s transportation, maintenance and supply needs are now able to provide even more robust services thanks to a recent change that gives them broader, faster reach into the Army’s overall logistics network.
The U.S. Army Garrison Red Cloud and Area I’s Directorate of Logistics ran the Central Issue Facility at Camp Hovey and the transportation motor pools that provide buses and vehicle maintenance in Warrior Country.
They did that as part of the U.S. Army Installation Management Command, of which USAG Red Cloud and Area I is a part.
But, effective Oct. 1, all Army DOL assets shifted from IMCOM to the U.S. Army Materiel Command. AMC is a global command that supports Army logistics worldwide.
The shift plugs in the DOL to AMC’s global logistics network.
And in Warrior Country, DOL is now part of the 403rd Army Field Support Brigade Area I, said DOL director Dennis Williams.
For Warrior Country customers, that’ll mean that when one of the 403rd AFSB’s facilities in Warrior Country runs low on an item – helmets or vehicle parts – for example, they can be shipped from another facility that does have them, even one in, say, Japan, Williams said.
The transition will not pose any confusion or inconvenience for DOL customers, he said.
“For Area I it will be transparent,” he said. “The services we did yesterday are the same services that we’ll do today and tomorrow.”
The Area I DOL marked the shift to AMC with a low-key patch-and-pin ceremony Oct. 3 at Camp Casey’s Carey Fitness Center.
There, DOL’s Soldiers traded in their seven-sided IMCOM patch for the shield-shaped AMC patch, while civilians received an AMC lapel pin.
“On behalf of the Army Materiel Command I want to welcome you to the new AMC family,” Col. Michael Lopez, commander of the 403rd AFSB, said during the ceremony.
For the more than 300 DOL Soldiers, Department of the Army Civilians and Korean civilians in Warrior Country, the 403rd AFSB is now their higher headquarters. But, they’re not alone. On Oct. 1, the 403rd also took command and control of all DOLs in Korea, Japan and Okinawa.
The changeover process was set in motion in March 2005 when the leadership of IMCOM and AMC decided to develop a logistics partnership to improve support to the Army and the Army’s transformation plan.

1955 W196 R 2.5 Streamlined Racing Car
The first Daimler-Benz formula racing car built after the war. In this car, Juan Manuel Fangio won the 1954 and 1955 world championship titles. After their pre-war success, no-one doubted that Daimler-Benz would recommence formula racing. But the time for this did not come until the new formula racing regulations were introduced in 1954. Now, the engines could have a displacement of 750 cc in the supercharged version or of 2.5 litre in the naturally aspirated version. The Daimler-Benz company chose the naturally aspirated version the development of the car was put into the hands of Rudolf Uhlenhaut. The very first entry of the new W 196 R in the French GP at Reims ended with a great success: Fangio and Kling could score a twin victory. The next entry in the Silverstone race, however, was less successful, probably due to the streamlined body which was unsuitable for that track. This experience resulted in the development of the monoposto body. Subsequently, various versions of the car were manufactured with different wheelbases - 2210 and 2150 mm-, and different brake locations - internal or external.

Illinois Central Gulf caboose (ICG 199116) in Martin, Tennessee (Weakley County). It is a prominent feature in the downtown Victoria Weldon Park.
This is class N8 steel caboose with a “streamlined” cupola built in 1951. It was formally with Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) and sold to the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad in 1974. It was brought to Martin TN before 2007 and restored by the City of Martin in 2016-2018. A sign in front of the caboose recognizes the contributors to its restoration.
The outside of the caboose has not been noticeably modified since its railroad days. The inside has been nicely restored and serves as a museum to the caboose. Visitors can freely climb on the platforms of the caboose but not enter the cabin.

It's not just 19-century industrial sites that Greenpoint's waterfront will lose thanks to recent rezoning and imminent construction of high-rise condos. This building is probably doomed too. According to the Municipal Art Society (see link below), it's a rare (in NYC) example of streamlined moderne architecture from the 1930s. The building is an amazing assemblage of curves and boxes (and wonderful typography in that sign too).

The changeover process was set in motion in March 2005 when the leadership of IMCOM and AMC decided to develop a logistics partnership to improve support to the Army and the Army’s transformation plan.
Recent shift to AMC enables streamlined logistics services

CAMP CASEY, SOUTH KOREA – The logisticians who look after Warrior Country’s transportation, maintenance and supply needs are now able to provide even more robust services thanks to a recent change that gives them broader, faster reach into the Army’s overall logistics network.
The U.S. Army Garrison Red Cloud and Area I’s Directorate of Logistics ran the Central Issue Facility at Camp Hovey and the transportation motor pools that provide buses and vehicle maintenance in Warrior Country.
They did that as part of the U.S. Army Installation Management Command, of which USAG Red Cloud and Area I is a part.
But, effective Oct. 1, all Army DOL assets shifted from IMCOM to the U.S. Army Materiel Command. AMC is a global command that supports Army logistics worldwide.
The shift plugs in the DOL to AMC’s global logistics network.
And in Warrior Country, DOL is now part of the 403rd Army Field Support Brigade Area I, said DOL director Dennis Williams.
For Warrior Country customers, that’ll mean that when one of the 403rd AFSB’s facilities in Warrior Country runs low on an item – helmets or vehicle parts – for example, they can be shipped from another facility that does have them, even one in, say, Japan, Williams said.
The transition will not pose any confusion or inconvenience for DOL customers, he said.
“For Area I it will be transparent,” he said. “The services we did yesterday are the same services that we’ll do today and tomorrow.”
The Area I DOL marked the shift to AMC with a low-key patch-and-pin ceremony Oct. 3 at Camp Casey’s Carey Fitness Center.
