I found this place about 10 years ago and have only just revisited it. The shame was that the stream goes right up to an old mill that would have given me great oppertunities to get some very nice shots. Unfortunately the stream goes through a stud farm and they have put electric fences across the top of the stream. Also the mill has been bought by some rich people and all the land is now closed off, even the pond. Even if I could paddle in the stream and get past the electric fence I would not make it to the mill as they have fences built across the stream. Such a shame that people act this way but I don't think we will ever change even after Covid19. We will still be divided.

This little Song Sparrow was busy catching tasty morsels in the shallow part of the stream.

A moment of fantastic light mixed with a little fog in the Pisgah National Forest. I was taking photos of a picturesque cascade on this stream when I looked behind me and saw this scene unfolding. I quickly turned around to capture this light before it moved on. It was such a simple scene that the light transformed into something more. It always pays to look behind you especially when you have great light behind you.

At 22:10, the only sounds I was hearing while on this stream were the large fish jumping out of the water every now and then to catch flies : )
This deep, steep-sided valley we were about to cross on the Around the Mountain Circuit of Mount Taranaki should have an impressive name, but on the maps it is called 'Maketawa Stream', that's all, an understatement. We were surprised by the ruggedness of the low track option of the circuit. Even if you are not gaining net elevation the constant ups and downs crossing the valleys of the lower mountain, often aided by ladders, make these tracks equally challenging. Mount Taranaki is classed as an active volcano. To put that in perspective, over the last 9,000 years minor eruptions occurred roughly every 90 years on average, with major eruptions every 500 years. The last major eruption occurred around 1655.
Another composition I have had in mind for a while. Planned using Photopills. I had not visited Cave Stream before so I was super happy that it all came together on the night. It was such an amazingly clear night.

Stream Orchid (Epipactis gigantea) photogtaphed in Morongo Canyon Preserve on our way to Joshua Tree National Park. Morongo is known as one of the best birding sites in the western US. We saw or heard over 70 species there on a 'Birdathon' last week.
The twisted stream is called the Pow Burn and here it is flowing into the sea!

This stream is almost beside where I live and empties into the Grand River that runs behind my house. I saw 2 deer getting a drink but they took off as soon as they saw me. No, it's not black and white--that's all the colour we have here!!

We came across this quite by chance and despite the cold we couldn't just pass it by without investigating!
I believe this is the Packhorse bridge beneath the Dent Head Viaduct.
I'm pretty sure we will be returning here (hopefully in warmer weather).
