We celebrate boy's growth on 5th May in Japan, and we display a decoration called "KOINOBORI" (carp streamers) out of or in the house.
Streamers is built as a participative public sculpture made out of recycled loudspeakers, tube radios, hifi furniture and modern interactive media. SPEAKERS SCULPTURES are interactive sound sculptures by Berlin-based Franco-American artist Benoît Maubrey. They are conceived on site and reflect their local environment and are constructed from up to 3000 recycled loudspeakers (all connected). The sculptures can function both as a mobile “Speakers Corner“ — a “hotspot“ for local participation and self-expression but also as a forum for small events and concerts.

North Antrim - April 2026. This species appears to be much more common in the midlands of Ireland based on my visit there last week. I normally only get one or two a year locally.

I had to pull over on my way to work this morning and grab a few shots in this wood. The fog was starting to lift and the sun lit up the scene perfectly :-)

I know, I know these shots are overdone.. in fact a guy walking across the bridge heading home from work stopped and started asking about my settings etc. He said he sees people shooting there every 2-3days!..well tonight was my night ;-)

A pair spent the morning hunting round the house and then taking their rest breaks sat on the living room shutters. They were gaping to lose heat, but still wanted to sit in the sun rather than use a shaded window.
I was alerted to their presence by Proximo (our Ragdoll cat) trying to talk to their dangling tail streamers through the window.
I only know this is the male because the slightly smaller female with shorter streamers, had just left.
It has made me want to get some Swallow nest boxes for next year.

Hanging about 20 feet in the air, from the big light in our pergola. I think the streamers are 10 feet long! The cats are loving that!

Things were not going right for me today, so I decided to just play around and ended up with something kind of cool.
@Macro mondays: Recently, I experimented with streamers illuminated with a flashlight to generate a distinctive bokeh. This bokeh was quite creamy, so I tried out a new series of pictures with a pink streamer. This is the result.
