In Japan May 5th is "Children's Day".This day is celebrated to wish the healthy growth of the boy in family. Carp streamers are flown as symbol of streagth and courrage.
This freshly emerged Streamer moth has a violet tint. Its name comes from the black marking streaming from the leading edge of the wing. This example was found in Gretton, Gloucestershire.

Out on deck at 5:30 this morning, we were greeted by spectacular lenticular streamers coming off the mountains. We were also greeted by 70 mph katabatic winds coming down off the glacier in St Andrews Bay, where we had been scheduled to visit the legendary King Penguin colony – near hurricane force, whipping the water into williwaws. The winds have to be below 20 to winch down the zodiacs. So here we are en route to Plan B.
