Storms fired in Nebraska, but they battled the cap and general subsidence behind a morning shortwave.
Dry, crispy fields, about as dehydrated as the elevated layer of air pinching into the twilight moments of this storm east of Sterling, Colorado—June 1, 2024.
Southern Alberta delivered a beautiful, tornado warned, supercell! Great fun chasing today with Beth Allan Photography and bumping into some great friends along the road!

Late July 2023...
This month of storms was just down right jaw dropping. Why not continue since we didn't have any storms in May or June! Overtime for July is the way I like it!
90% of the time of year in South Central Nebraska is Hot & Humid. It is normally the beginning of our dry season. But not in 2023.
In the path of the Jet Stream that day that forced some severe thunderstorm development over south central Nebraska. We were not excepting anything super severe but a tornado or 2 is always possible this time of year.
Gear Primed & excited about the views I'm going to get for this event that day. I knew they were going to be photogenic.

After hearing unexpected thunder, I raced out the door with my son. We cruised to Cinder Hills Overlook east of Sunset Crater as storms moved in from the south. This group of strikes all landed at once, a split second after the shutter opened—longest 8 seconds ever, waiting for the shot to finish and hoping it didn't hit just before the shutter. Caught a couple landing points in there too—SO glad to be stopped down to f/9!
Worth noting there were people camped at the base of that foreground hill. We could see the faint light from their campsite and were wondering if they'd retreated to their cars as this moved in. If not before—surely after that crazy electric rampage.
Nick (in the foreground) and Susie hard at work collecting hail for Roger and Boeing's Research Department. We got hail that was larger than baseballs!

A hop skip & jump from my home here in Kearney Nebraska to this location with a wide open sky! A nicely defined thunderhead was approaching from the southwest and she was moving my way! You know me, I wouldn't miss this opportunity.
Gear was primed & so was I. Simply a beautiful view of this storm. A nicely defined shelf cloud to end out this series of captures!

One from our first chase day of the year near Vernon, Texas.
We are on our way to New Mexico today to chase more storms.
This is a 9 image panoramic.

Across the Great Plains for two weeks with Silver Lining Tours. This is an EF-1 tornado near Pella, IA
May 16, 2016 was a good day in the Panhandles. Kicked off with a tornado near Felt, another long distance near Texline, big hail further south, spending some time trapped in Dalhart & finally this character sailing off north of Amarillo.
Yesterday night I went stormchasing. Too bad I didn`t have one of those Discoverychannel vehicles:)
But in the rush I forgot my remote so I found myself limited to the selftimer. Because of the 30sec limit I was forced to bump the ISO...
Oh well, better luck next time. Planning is everything but this little improvisement was a good learning :)
Mammatus clouds form on the northern side of a severe thunderstorm near Lyon County as seen from I-335.

Sunrise...
Non severe storms now forming just south of the I-80 corridor.
Really beautiful billowing thunderheads. With the cresting sunrise light I was in for a photographic treat.
An incredible morning of storm light & shadow!

I somehow managed to blow the focus on this one -- I think I did a focus on what I thought was infinity, but the dust threw it off. This was all the crap getting blown around after the haboob passed.
One of several waves of convective fun during the September 23rd monsoon transition setup in Arizona last year. I had a morning conference call to attend and was out of position behind the storm that dropped a tornado by New River that morning. It was still a great day despite that. I ran into a few other chasers at this spot near Buckeye while they were running time lapse ops as this one swept over. I love that super-sharp precip edge back on the left side.
Lawton, Oklahoma, June 4, 2024. This was a second day of squandered instability (5K MLCAPE/7K SBCAPE). While it lasted, it was pretty fun watching all that energy try to surge through the pinhole the cap was allowing before it fully closed up.

Late Night Storm Chasing... not really, this was just a few blocks from my home. Though a week after my injury, it was effecting my health. Severe back and neck pain due to the infection spreading... I still challenged myself to get out. It was painful but as you see, I was more than successful. It was definitely worth my time to get out that late night. I needed to do so, my spirit need to be recharged.
Beautiful crystal blue lightning illuminated the night as the arcus (shelf cloud) approached from the due west. Got to my location and set up and went to town... Oh was this worth it!!!
This storm was severe warned and was moving almost west / west southeast from my pov. Just on the outskirts of Buffalo County, it was maturing & gaining strength. One can clearly see the base of this storm in this part, this set of captures. On radar this had rotation detected. I've seen this before, tons of wicked good forked CG lightning strikes extruding from the base of this storm. I thought I was going to see a night nader move right in front of my location. Instead she didn't drop anything, but you can sure witness the rotation in these captures....

We stopped to watch some distant lightning and just as they called us to leave, the sky exploded with a BOOM and lightning all around and above us. Good thing my lightning trigger was still set up because I was on the ground.

Traveled back home. Download the images from the SD cards and recharged the batteries to the cams...
After 10pm ish, another storm developed right off to the west of the city. Tons of cloud to cloud and ambient lightning were firing off every few seconds.
If this is how the rest of the year of 2012 is going to be... I'm gonna be one happy guy!
