I usually try and use a wide lens, at least something in the under 70mm range to capture lightning. This time, I decided to try my hand at some well placed tight shots.
Luck was on my side, and this bolt dropped from sky in the center of my frame.
Shrimp and Rice.
What a way to end a fabulous trip, my friend Karen a freelance journalist taking me for my final meal if you're in Atlanta check out "This Is It".
Thank you for looking through my album.
The hotels were pretty good - Super 8s, Cobblestone Inns, Rodeway Inns, Day's Inn, Econolodge, Quality Inn and some smaller local spots.

What a day to remember... Storm Chasing close to home and when I say that this day was incredible, it was simply surreal. SPC had us a moderate risk for us that day, and I wasn't going to be disappointed.
Tornado Watch was just issued for all of South Central Nebraska... Storms were already strong but had not developed into their severe stages until they entered into Phelps County. I was packed up and ready to catch some photographic gems for that day.
Camera in hand when the Tornado Warnings went into effect. I was already on the road trying to catch the first few severe cells. Timed it out perfectly, and got into position south of Overton Nebraska to get under and behind this first cell that produced the first 2 Tornadoes of that day.
After witnessing one of the best rear flank downdrafts of 2011 just south of Overton Nebraska. I was vertically racing the storm to the east via I-80.
Probably not one of my best of ideas to be driving and taking pictures, but their wasn't a soul on the Interstate. Seriously, no traffic meant that the road was was all mine and I could take the time to get some snaps without worrying about traffic.

High contrast storm base and rolling fields east of Sterling, Colorado—June 1st. There are no shortage of worthy dynamic range challenges photographing these clear, high plains, backlit-underlit storms. Yonder Scary Looking Cloud went through a couple RFD shelf cloud/wall cloud iterations before falling apart further east.
A batch of folding disc harrows about to get a light cleaning in the general vicinity of Sidney, Nebraska—June 2, 2024.
August 21, 2014 - Kearney Nebraska US
After Midnight... didn't have to work the next day & we had some weak cells move just to the west of Kearney moving northwest. It was cracking off some good cloud to ground lightning. So I grabbed my gear & headed just a few blocks from where I live, to capture a few cg lighting beauties!

Not always this early in the year in South Central Nebraska... But I'll take some early April Thunderstorms to start our storm season. Nice billowing towers with some pea sized hail just to the East of Kearney that afternoon.
As the storm was exiting to the east... These dynamic stormscapes were really putting on a show.
