Fun with distant outflow blobs, looking north from the vicinity of Twin Arrows recently. All the cinder coney terrain likes to play games with moist parcels getting lofted by pushy storms.
Per typical, I wasn't hanging out on the right side of Merrill Crater for clearer, less telephoto-esque views.

My first tornado, shot right after it dropped out of a thunderstorm in the Texas panhandle in May 2001.

April 24th near Post, Texas, after catching up with a gnarly tornado in the Panhandle—this storm flickered into the night, brushing virga across lightning branches using some nicely balanced wet in wet and impasto techniques.
We watched this storm for some time and learned that there was a tornado inside the rain-wrapped clouds. It moved left to right in front of us so that we could watch in dry conditions.

I'm glad to have chased 4 days in Dixie Alley, but the photo ops were really difficult. I left with just a handful I kind of like. There is so much plotting, scheming and maneuvering needed, there's barely time or mental space left to set up for decent images.

I Seriously, wasn't going to go out this night... Had a weeks worth of hell, and I really just wanted to do was get off work and go home. I was tired, I was cranky, it was the first weekend I've had off in a Month...
As soon as I pulled into the driveway @home, I could hear the weather radio going off and my storm capturing sensation came over me. Listening to the bullitins coming over the radio and I Freaked!. The storms were closer than I had thought. NWS just put warnings for Northern Buffalo County for super fast development of strong to potentially super severe, with large hail, and possible Tornadoes.
Photography Chance of a lifetime... Even though someone could cast me as a member of the Walking Dead....I was a trooper and I didn't wimp out! Luckily I had the my camera on the charger... Grabbed all my equipment & I hauled A** North... 20 mins later I found myself in the perfect spot, under the perfect conditions!
Cresting over northern Buffalo County, ready to cross between Pleasanton & Ravenna Nebraska, this cell was rapidly building and already had tornado warning on it. Incredible CG lightning in front of the storm cell was just to good to capture, with lighting firing off every few seconds.

The hotels were pretty good - Super 8s, Cobblestone Inns, Rodeway Inns, Day's Inn, Econolodge, Quality Inn and some smaller local spots.
High contrast storm base and rolling fields east of Sterling, Colorado—June 1st. There are no shortage of worthy dynamic range challenges photographing these clear, high plains, backlit-underlit storms. Yonder Scary Looking Cloud went through a couple RFD shelf cloud/wall cloud iterations before falling apart further east.
