Prairie Road at night, by the Northwest Hardwoods plant

Real stop sign on the frontage road a few miles south of Las Vegas going to LA.

When I couldn't find much of anything else to photograph on a recent day, I decided to practice some panning shots. I think this one came out pretty well.

Haiku poem:

Footsteps lost to snow,

Nature’s call, a quiet plea,

Stop, breath in silence.

Would anyone think that the railroad didn't have the right of way? Just asking. :-)

Beautiful day at the Pearl Brewery district in San Antonio, Tx.

Jersey Central-painted F3s 57 and 56 roll through a neighborhood in Nesquehoning, PA with a Rail Tours passenger excursion in October 2002. The train is on the former CNJ Nesquehoning Branch, which at the time was operated by the shortline Carbon & Schuylkill and was later taken over by Reading & Northern.

Taking a drive through small town America at dusk. It’s quite here, like your house when everyone is asleep. The electric lines crisscross the street every which way. Have no idea how they figure out where all these lines go. I count three layers going one way and another set on each side of the road going the other way. There is a stop sign here but you wont have to wait long.

Experimental photo taken while driving, later layered and manipulated.

Make The Snow Stop....

since Just before New years i have been literally knocked off my feet by a rather nasty flu. so i haven't been able to get out and take any shots.

Over a week ago now we had a fairly heavy snowfall that continued well into early morning turning the dull grey of winter into a white clean wintry wonderland.

winters intersection. better know where you are going on a frosty cold morning in December or you might not know what street it is without wiping the snow off the street sign.

The Venice sign at the intersection of Pacific & Windward Avenues, Venice Beach in Los Angeles, California. A modern replica of the original 1905 neon sign installed by Venice's founder Abbot Kinney.

This picture covers a 6 block area. I used a long lens to compress the area. I also didn't realize how hilly the area was until I saw this shot.

Stopped for the paving of a country road one night, I wanted to see the effect of capturing the flag person silhouetted by the bright equipment light, as well as illuminated by the car lights. Not sure which I like better: the monochrome (B&W) version, or the colour one. Be interesting to see which one gets the most faves (if any)!!! ;-)

Mecosta County, Michigan.

When I uploaded this photo to my computer, I could not understand why the lower half, upper half and sides of the composition were in focus but NOT the dark greens above the road in the center of the composition.

This was taken through the front windshield of a moving car as I at in the passenger seat. I think that had something to do with creating this effect.

One from the archives. Back in Connecticut several years ago, a nearby put in new windows. I often walked by and noticed they had very weird reflections - almost fisheye. This is not photoshopped, just cropped and desaturated.

We still have a lot of snow in the Bear Lake Valley as you can see by drifts caused by snow blowing into a small road cut. The mountain in the distance is Sherman Peak in the Bear River Range, Idaho.

For number four in my series, I’ve selected Earlham, a small Iowa town with about 1,400 residents. The business in the old downtown area that I show here is what I call “The Jewel of Earlham”. Beans and Beignets is an awesome café with excellent cappuccino and delightful New Orlean style beignets. Every couple of months, I drive 40 miles from my home to this small town in Madison County to have brunch. It’s definitely worth the drive.

Developed with Darktable 4.8.0.

About the series: Life in a small Midwestern town often means a slower pace of life, close-knit communities, and a strong connection to the land and agriculture. Residents typically have a strong sense of pride in their hometown and a friendly, neighborly attitude. Small towns usually have limited employment and entertainment options, but the tradeoff is typically a lower cost of living and a quieter, more peaceful environment. Presented in black and white at night, I hope to capture the essence of a few small Iowa towns in this series. Series Album: flic.kr/s/aHBqjBWTai
